In almost every part of the world, having your own home is a luxury. The cost of buying a house is extreme enough, but when you add to that the amount which people spend on decorating, remodeling, and maintenance, you're looking at a small fortune, at least.
It's no wonder, then, that some people will go to extreme lengths to keep their homes. Maybe because it's the place they grew up in, maybe because they'd spent years making it just right, or maybe (and sadly) because some of them had nowhere else to go.
Here are 13 examples of people who refused to leave their residences - sometimes even when whole new towns were being built around them.

When you consider that some of these people were probably offered a hefty sum of cash in order to up sticks, their resistance is actually quite admirable. Maybe a bit stupid, too. But it just goes to show that some people would do anything for their homes.
