It's enough to get even the most optimistic of us to feel a little nervous at times, knowing that those with access to the 'the big red button' are prone to getting angry and calling each other names. So if there is still a need for the superpowers of the world to spy on each other from afar, fearful of their competitors' next move, they need to keep up to date. As surveillance and stealth technology becomes more and more effective, so do the countermeasures installed to combat them. That means even the most powerful and innovative creations eventually need to be retired, making way for more effective measures. Serving from 1964 to 1998 in Vietnam, North Korea, and the former Soviet Union, the Blackbird held the world record for the fastest air-breathing manned aircraft since 1976. A total of 32 of them were built, with 12 lost in accidents and none lost due to enemy action, but now there needs to be a successor. The new Hypersonic SR-72 spy plane is being developed by Lockheed Martin as a replacement for the US' previous top stealth aircraft. The creation of this aircraft has been shrouded in secrecy, but it has been reported that it would reach speeds of up to 4,500 mph. Despite the fact there isn't much the public knows about the SR-72, apparently one eagle-eyed user has spotted the Mach 6 spy plane on Google Maps... in a Florida car park. Tyler Glockner, the conspiracy theorist behind YouTube's most successful UFO channel, may not be the ultimate source of substantiated information, but he has managed to convince a fair amount of people that he has seen the plane on Google Earth - while others think it could easily be another vehicle, like a speedboat. Speaking on the image discovered, Glockner said: "It was discovered sitting on what looks like a sort of make shift runway down in the middle of the swamp lands of Florida." "It's a very mysterious object. I haven't been able to find out exactly what it is but there's no record of a public aircraft that's ever been disclosed. You can see that this thing looks like a sort of supersonic, aircraft or spacecraft of some type." Coincidentally, the SR-72 was featured at a conference in the state last week. Lockheed Martin attended the SciTech conference in Florida, where vice chairman Jack O'Banion essentially confirmed the completion of the project. He said, pointing to an artist's impression of the plane, "Without digital transformation, that aircraft you see there could not have been made." Whether you believe the photos or not, it's hard to think who would put an aircraft in such plain view, especially when it's such a top secret project. Or, it could just be a boat.
