A man who built two high-rise towers for his cats to live in has gone viral on social media. In fact, the towers, which are fit for feline royalty, proved to be so popular that he is now sharing the building plans.
Rob Coutu, who hails from Windsor, Connecticut, wanted to create something seriously special for his cat, a Savannah feline called Zach, so he could take his climbing to the next level.
The two towers have balconies, decks for Zach to perch on, 3D printed windows, window boxes filled with colorful flowers, and a connecting bridge so he can move about with ease.
Coutu started the project last year, after posting a mock-up design of his idea on a Facebook group. And since then, 15,000 people have been following his progress.
So far, the initiative has cost Coutu around $3,500, and improvements are still being made. In his Facebook group, titled Kitty Towers by RACoutu, he posts pictures of Zach enjoying his new funhouse and all the structure's quirky little details.
In a recent post on the group, Coutu said it was "humbling" to see the overwhelmingly positive response to his project, and stated that he was considering making towers for other cat owners.
This Ohio woman was arrested for feeding stray cats:"Because of the demand, I am considering making them for people as a custom install, once I have sorted out all the legal stuff," he wrote. "That said, the price would vary but the larger tower shown on the left would most like start around $5,800 est. plus tax and any extra related fees. I will most likely offer the building plans (price not yet determined), once I can secure a non-piracy secure version to sell."
"Custom designs will be offered at additional costs for both build and blueprints. Do not take any shortcuts in building or purchasing these when they become available as the safety of the kitties are my foremost focus [sic]."
"Thanks Rob, for the consideration on sharing your talents with us," commented one Facebook user. "Cat people have been starving for decent, unique, and substantial cat tree/towers/ plans for a long tine now!! So excited!! [sic]"
