A photograph of a seemingly "headless" dog has sent the internet into meltdown.

Now, as any user of the World Wide Web will attest, doggo snaps are one of the things that make the internet great. However, when it comes to doggy online sensations, the majority have one thing in common: cuteness and durability. Unlike this poor pooch ho has found viral fame for a very different reason - it looks like he's headless!

The picture above was posted to image sharing site Imgur, where it caused a sensation, having received over 143k views and over 3.2k upvotes from some very, very confused people - many of whom were wondering whether or not Dr. Frankenstein has reanimated a dead, headless dog.

Reacting to the mind-boggling picture, one Imgur user wrote: "I legit thought that was a headless dog that was somehow alive."

A fourth rightfully asked: "I'm gonna need another camera angle."

Then, on Reddit, where the image also went viral, people decided to hilariously add in the pooch's missing head. This picture below is a testament to the fact that googly eyes can fix almost anything... almost.

Thankfully, all was not as it seemed in the picture. The dog wasn't a creation of Dr. Frankenstein. Instead, it's a pooch who's sadly had a leg amputated, and in the viral picture, he's reaching his head around to lick his back!

One person even included a helpful drawing to help those who had been left perplexed by the image.

To put everybody's minds at rest the owner shared a face-on snap of  what the adorable three-legged pooch looks like when he's not trying to scratch his back. What a pretty face! Much better than anything the internet could create with googly eyes.
