Bookstores are dying - we all know that. With major e-commerce sites like Amazon superseding the traditional brick and mortar store, it's clear that in our busy lives we prefer to purchase things quickly and efficiently.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule - one being a certain Canadian book shop - and for good reason.

This store is a book store like no other (well, maybe one or two), in that it allows adorable kitties to roam around the shop.

Now, is that an ingenious idea or what?

The store in question is called Otis & Clementine’s Books & Coffee and doubles as a sort of shelter for cats waiting for a forever home.

“People come here specifically to see the cats, and then some people just wander in to look at books and discover there are kittens,” the shop’s owner, Ellen Helmke told Global News.

But how did this all come about, you ask? Well, Helmke began the fostering program last year in collaboration with South Paw Conservation Nova Scotia - the organization that rescues the kitties.

“We have a hundred per cent adoption rate, which is fantastic,” added Helmke. “I’m so happy to make my customers happy when they come in and they’re just thrilled to see a kitten they weren’t expecting… It’s amazing and makes me happy to come to work.”

So far, 30 kitties have been adopted as a result of the scheme.

A spokesperson for South Paw Conservation told Bored Panda  the book shop is "one of many loving foster homes that provide an enriching environment for [its] kittens and cats."

The spokesperson added: "[We’re] really hoping the platform of attention we receive from Otis & Clementine’s will help us to find loving homes, provide proper medical care, food and litter through donations and spay/neuter even more kitties within the province in 2020."
