It's a truth universally acknowledged that mosquitoes are an absolute pain. They somehow manage to turn the prospect of an exciting, activity-filled summer into an almost daily attempt to keep the bloodthirsty creatures at bay as the temperature and humidity continue to rise.

But as it turns out, when they're not using you for your blood, they're crawling into your ears for the sole purpose of making you suffer even more.

Okay, so that isn't quite biologically accurate but it has definitely happened before. Yep, a woman from Dien Bien Province, Vietnam, was horrified to learn that a mosquito had been living in her ear.

This is the incredible moment a woman has a mosquito removed from deep inside her ear (Warning: some may find the footage distressing):

According to Newsflare, when the woman was forced to endure persistent buzzing in her ear, with no apparent remedy for her suffering, she decided to pay her doctor a visit.

That's was when it emerged that the inset had crawled into her ear and had been living there for a time.

Check out footage of this equally creepy moment a spider crawls out of a woman's ear:

It was found inside her ear and was carefully removed in a bid to prevent potential damage to her hearing. The insect was living deep inside the woman's ear canal and was removed with endoscopic equipment.

As you can imagine, the resulting footage of the procedure is both horrifying and intriguing.

Not all-grossed out yet? This man discovered a black widow was living in his ear:

Anyway, this particular patient certainly isn't the only person to have undergone an ordeal such as this. Apparently, the doctor who removed the mosquito from his patient's ear has since said it is not uncommon for insects to fly into people's ears...
