Alec Baldwin has been slammed on social media for what many interpreted as him taking credit for Joe Biden's projected presidential victory, after the actor was seen holding up a "You're Welcome" sign on Saturday Night Live.
The comedian had made a name for himself on the comedy sketch show for his impressions of Donald Trump, but his actions this weekend after Joe Biden was declared the projected winner of the election did not go down so well.
Saturday night's show was closed with Dave Chappelle holding up a sign thanking those involved.
Maya Rudolph was holding up a sign wishing her daughter Lucy a happy birthday, but Baldwin, on the other hand, was holding a sign that read: "YOU'RE WELCOME!!!"

One Twitter user wrote: "Alec Baldwin holding a 'You're Welcome' sign at the end of SNL.... really doing the lord's work there Alec. Getting paid a lot of money to make fun of the easiest target and inadvertently normalizing his insanity."
A second tweeted: "Alec Baldwin held a sign that said 'You're Welcome' at the end of SNL? Like he did this?"
A third wrote: "Alec Baldwin [sic] really holding a sign that says 'you're welcome' lmao for what."
A fourth remarked: "Alec Baldwin holding up a sign saying 'you're welcome' as if he did anything is the most cringe-inducing moment of the election."
Meanwhile, a fifth added: "still can't get over alec baldwin standing there with a 'you're welcome' sign as if he saved democracy or something. very big 'but i called him drumpf' energy there [sic]."
Baldwin himself took to social media to reveal that he will no longer be impersonating Trump in future SNL shows.
He wrote: "I don't believe I've ever been this overjoyed to lose a job before!"
However, if the reactions to Baldwin's sign are anything to go by, viewers of the show will certainly be overjoyed to see the back of him too.
