Angus Mitchell, the only son of the iconic late hairstylist Paul Mitchell, has died at the age of 53.
According to reports from TMZ, Angus, who followed in his father's footsteps as the co-owner of John Paul Mitchell Systems, was found dead "in a swimming pool" at his home in Hawaii on January 3.
Police were reportedly called just after 6AM on Wednesday to reports of a male appearing to have drowned in a pool at the property.
Angus was pronounced dead at the scene according to the outlet, with his official cause of death still under investigation.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, Angus had shared a video of him enjoying a night at his home with friends, where they were filmed listening to Hawaiian music.
Angus is survived by his wife, Mara Gourdine, and his eight-year-old son Dylan, who he shares with his ex-wife Sian.
He shared his excitement for the new year just days before his death, posting a joyful photo with his loved ones as he told his followers: "Who’s ready to wrap 2023 and head into the new year?! Cheers to 2024 from my family to yours."
Angus was the co-owner of John Paul Mitchell Systems, which his father Paul founded in 1980 with John Paul DeJoria, having inherited his dad's stake after his father died from pancreatic cancer in 1989, also at the age of 53.
Although Angus had studied hairstyling in school, he previously revealed that he had learned most of what he knew about his career from his famed father.
He had worked in Hawaii for several years before opening the AngusM Salon in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, in 2010, and had also traveled around the world as an educator on behalf of JPMS.
Aside from hair, Angus, whose mother is former model Jolina Wyrzykowski, was also passionate about cars and even ran a second Instagram account, @angusgearbox, dedicated to his motoring projects.
He was also a lover of Hawaii, much like his late father, who had first taken him there as a child.
Angus reportedly donated land for nature preservation on the island and had been involved with several organizations on the island, including the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation, Palma Settlement, and Child and Family Service according to Forbes.
