Australia's wildlife warrior siblings have paid homage to the original Crocodile Hunter - their father Steve Irwin - on Father's Day
Sunday, September 4, marked 16 years since the world lost the beloved conservationist and TV personality.
Taking to Instagram, Bindi and Robert Irwin posted throwback images of their famous father, with his 18-year-old son captioning the post: "It's Father's Day today in Australia, and I am sending my love to those who are missing their dad today. I cherish all the good times with my dad and feel grateful to be able to keep his memory and legacy alive."
The post showed a baby Robert reaching for a bunch of flowers that his late father is holding.
Steve's oldest child, Bindi, also posted some cute images of her and her father. She captioned the image: "Grandpa Crocodile, I know you would've been the most incredible grandfather because you were such an extraordinary dad. Thank you for being an amazing guardian angel for Grace."
The 24-year-old - who married US wakeboarding athlete, Chandler Powell, in 2020 - gave birth to a daughter named Grace Warrior Irwin Powell in 2021.
Fans of Irwin also paid tribute, commenting heartfelt messages beneath Robert's and Bindi's posts.
"Sending you such a warm hug, kiddo. You have such a good heart and head on your shoulders. Keep chasing every dream and passion with gusto! I know you hear this all the time, but kid, your dad has got the proudest grin on his face as he watches over you and watches you grow. No matter what you do, whatever avenue you take in life, he'd be so proud of you, dear heart," someone lovingly commented underneath Robert's post.
Another user commented: "He was a wonderful man. And he brought conservation and the animal world to us as never before. So wonderful to see the son he would be more than proud of carrying on his legacy. Life throws curve balls to us all sometimes. But you darling one have caught the ball and running with it. Xx."
Similarly, sweet tributes came pouring in for Irwin on Bindi's Instagram, with someone writing: "Life is so unfair [crying emoji] if anyone deserves to be here with his kids and first grandchild it's Steve Irwin. He would have just treasured every moment with each of you."
"He gave this world such a gift by sharing his life with us. I'm sure Grace will think of him as a superhero as she grows and she'll be right. He was extraordinary and so are you," another comment read.
Steve Irwin was tragically killed after being pierced in the heart by a stingray barb in Queensland, Australia, on September 4, 2006.
His legacy as a wildlife expert and dedicated conservationist has been tirelessly continued by his widow, Terri Irwin, and children.
He rose to fame with his The Crocodile Hunter TV series, swiftly capturing the hearts of the Australian public with his typical Aussie larrikinism mixed with his genuine love and admiration for wildlife. He is regarded fondly as Australia's undisputed hero - in short, Steve Irwin is Australia personified.
