The biggest event in fashion returned last night. After a one-year hiatus, celebrities descended upon New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Met Gala.
This year, the theme echoed the Costume Institute's exhibition, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion — and our stars gave it their all. From Kim Kardashian's fetish wear-inspired ensemble to the references to Old Hollywood, it was the sartorial display that many of us were hoping for after a year of being locked inside.
Here are 15 of the most iconic looks...
Bad Guy singer, Billie Eilish, channeled old Hollywood — and Marilyn Monroe — in Oscar de la Renta.
Sleep paralysis demon, or haute couture? Kim Kardashian certainly made a statement with this seemingly horror movie-inspired look by Balenciaga.
Elliot Page made his Met Gala 2021 debut wearing a Balenciaga suit, black trainers, and a green rose pinned to the lapel.
Fans speculated whether the 34-year-old's accessory was paying homage to the green carnation symbol that is associated with Oscar Wilde. Back in 1892, the British writer asked his guests to wear green carnation flowers on their lapels, and since then, the green flower has been considered a queer symbol.
Big Little Lies star, Zoe Kravitz, dazzled in a silver, see-through, slip dress by Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello.
Lorde wore an embellished two-piece from Bode, which was topped off with an amazing headpiece.
Lil Nas' three-part Met Gala ensemble was regal, with a capital "R". The dramatic look was custom designed by none other than Donatella Versace.
Euphoria actress, Barbie Ferriera, fit the spec with this modern interpretation of flapper dress by Jonathan Simkhai.
Carey Mulligan could have doubled for Audrey Hepburn in a bright pink bustier Valentino gown.
Comedian, Pete Davidson, looked dapper in Thom Browne.
Met Gala veteran, Rihanna, made a statement in this all-black custom Balenciaga gown.
Supermodel, Iman, was a celestial vision in Harris Reed. Complete with a feathered overskirt and matching headpiece, she more than lived up to our expectations.
Kendall Jenner channelled old school money in Givenchy.
Wearing Prada, Gigi Hadid, was part Jessica Rabbit and part 50's Hollywood starlet.
Wearing Haider Ackermann and a pair of converses, Timothée Chalamet, was a picture of the American dream.
Yara Shahidi was inspired by the legendary Josephine Baker. She channeled her icon in a bedazzled Christian Dior gown, embroidered elbow-length gloves, and a diamond Cartier choker.
