Alanis Morissette comes out as pansexual after being 'hurt' by men
Alanis Morissette has revealed she identifies as pansexual after being "hurt" by past relationships with men.
The 'Ironic' singer came out during an appearance on the November 3 episode of the Handsome podcast withTig Notaro, Fortune Feimster, and Mae Martin.
Towards the end of the segment, Feimster told Morissette: "I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it."
Feimster then added: "Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?"
The 52-year-old star then revealed: "I’m pansexual, so, yeah."
Notaro then asked: "Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?", to which she confirmed: "I am."
The hosts then joked that she should have started the podcast with that revelation, as she joked: "I like to leave it for the epilogue."
Pansexuality is defined as a romantic, emotional, and/or sexual attraction to people regardless of their gender, per WebMD.
Morissette also recently addressed the "amazing" moment she kissed Sarah Jessica Parker in 2000, revealing on the Call Her Daddy podcast that she was the one who came up with the idea for the same-sex kiss.
She revealed: "I reached out to them and I said, ‘Might it be a nice time for Carrie to experience a lesbian moment?’ And they said, ‘Why, yes. We were thinking the same thing.’"
Morissette added: "I do recall kissing her — it was very pleasant."
The singer-songwriter has been married to her husband, Mario “Souleye” Treadway since 2010 and they share three children - Ever, 15, Onyx, 10, and Winter, seven.
She also previously dated actor Ryan Reynolds from 2002, before getting engaged in 2004, but finally splitting up in early 2007.
Her seventh album, Flavors of Entanglement, was inspired by her split from Reynolds, while her relationship with Full House comedian Dave Coulier from 1992 to 1994 is also believed to have inspired the album Jagged Little Pill.
Morissette also previously opened up about living with a love and sex addiction, telling the Sunday Times Style magazine: "I tried myriad ways to regulate [my emotions], whether that was partying or working.
"I was a huge work addict, still in recovery. A lot of love addiction, which also had some sex addiction. And I see this with empaths.
"We aren’t given a handbook about how to be responsible for this temperament. All I know is that I made absolutely no sense to most people for a very long time and it was lonely and painful but I persevered."
