Alex Rodriguez has admitted that his new look wasn't quite what he was going for.

The former Yankees star made waves on social media with his noticeably darker tan while attending the Timberwolves game on Friday night.

As co-owner of the team alongside billionaire businessman Marc Lore, 48-year-old "A-Rod" has been a prominent figure in the Timberwolves community since agreeing to buy the team for $1.5 billion in 2021.

The duo has been steadily progressing through a series of installments to fully own both the Timberwolves and the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx by 2024.

But it wasn't the Timberwolves' 112-107 loss against the Bucks that had people talking after the game, as all eyes were on Rodriguez, who sat courtside accompanied by his girlfriend Jaclyn Cordeiro and ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith.

Social media users couldn't help but notice Rodriguez's deeper-than-usual tan, prompting speculation, commentary, and - of course - memes online.

Of all the comparisons, the one that really stood out was Rodriguez being likened to Ross from the hit sitcom Friends - specifically in the season 10 episode, 'The One With Ross' Tan'.

In the episode in question, David Schwimmer's Ross visits a spray tanning salon, but fails to follow simple counting instructions while in the booth - counting "Mississippily". The result is one of the funniest visuals in the show's history, as Ross is left with a remarkably dark tan... all while his back remains untouched.

"Alex Rodriguez must have counted Mississippily. Got that Ross Geller special tan," one X user joked.

"Alex Rodriguez had the same problem at the tanning salon as Ross from Friends," a second added.

Addressing the chatter, Rodriguez took to Instagram on Saturday to respond to a comment that read: "He got really tan overnight".

Sharing a video with his 4.2 million followers, Rodriguez admitted that his new tan is the result of falling asleep in the sun while on vacation. Check out the video below:

"Alright everybody," he said. "I know that I'm dark but I am Dominican and I went on vacation and I fell asleep in the sun."

It is a shame that Rodriguez even felt the need to share the video, because a quick look at Jaclyn Cordeiro's Instagram will show that the couple have just enjoyed a break in Mexico:

The former MLB All-Star, known for his stellar career and 2009 World Series win with the Yankees, has maintained a high profile even after retiring from professional baseball in 2016.

A-Rod, ignore the haters! You're cool enough to rock any look!
