Swallow tattoos are incredibly meaningful tattoos, and originate from sailors.

According to the US Naval Institute: "Legend has it that tattoos began when seven sailors from a ship called the Swallow each tattooed a swallow on his chest to mark their mutiny. Tradition, though, generally holds that a swallow tattoo is used measure how far a sailor travels."

A swallow was often used as a symbol that the individual receiving the ink would always find their way home.

In more recent times, YourTango reports that "a swallow is more than a tattoo — it is a symbol of hope. As a swallow bird tattoo symbolizes joy, hope, and loyalty, they also symbolize fidelity, peace, and happiness. But overall, swallows represent protection and guidance."

Over on X, fans gushed over Jolie's new inking, with one person writing: "When I saw the tattoo, I quickly looked up the meaning, I loved it, one of the meanings is loyalty to family and represents the desire to protect those we love, it's a very important meaning for her and her family."

Another added: "Such wonderful message. Angie and the kids will protect their family, that's their home."

Jolie's new inking comes, of course, as she continues through divorce proceedings from Brad Pitt - with two of their daughters reportedly dropping their father's name.

The humanitarian and actress had the opportunity to speak about the importance of The Outsiders on the evening, as she introduced the show's company for an awe-inspiring performance.

"[S. E.] Hinton wrote The Outsiders in high school, and half a century later, it still speaks to us," she said on the stage. "Society changes, but the experience of being an outsider is universal.

"To any young person, any person, feeling on the outside, you are not wrong to see what is unfair. You are not wrong to wish to find your own path."

"As the cast raise their voices, I hope it inspires many of you watching to value yours, " Jolie concluded before welcoming the cast to the stage.

And one friend who was over-the-moon for Angelina was actress Salma Hayek, who took to Instagram to congratulate her former co-star.

"There are some rare humans we already know are brilliant, but it’s hard to grasp to what degree," Hayek wrote. "My dear Angie, you don’t cease to impress and inspire me, especially because I know that everything you do comes from a place of love. And Vivienne, you are a genius!

"Congratulations on your well-deserved Tony for ‘The Outsiders’, which was named best musical and picked up three other awards after receiving a total of 12 nominations!!"

The Jolies' big win last night comes after it was revealed that Vivienne reportedly chose to drop her father's last name in the playbill for the show.
