Barack Obama has been branded an "egomaniac" after recording and releasing a 29-hour-long audiobook based on his second autobiography, A Promised Land.

The 44th president's second autobiography was released on Tuesday (November 17) and has already sold over a million copies, The Sun reports.

However, some people were shocked at the sheer length of time it would take them to listen to the unedited 768-page book.

Comedian Adam Carolla, appearing on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show, joked: "Obama is a bigger narcissist than Trump.

"I was only able to listen to the first 17 hours on the toilet this morning."

Carlson added in: "Two autobiographies before you're 60? It's safe to say he doesn't have a self-esteem problem."

ABC host Meghan McCain's husband Ben Domenech tweeted: "I realize 29 hours of Barack Obama talking about himself may seem like a problem, but don't worry, it's just Volume 1."

Others on Twitter mocked the former president for his lengthy audiobook, with one referencing Tucker's show and writing: "@BarackObama is a legend in his own mind. #Tucker #BarackObama"

Another branded Obama as an "egomaniac", writing: "So Obama released his book and is doing his promo tour just in time to upstage (or provide cover) Biden's win. Biden got more votes than Obama, but only 10% of them weren't anti-Trump votes. Still, must be hard on Mr Egomaniac! [sic]"

A third agreed, adding: "So true. And the King narcissist Obama fans the flames. Who talks about themselves for 29 hours in audio book. A egomaniac who believes he is a legend in his own mind. America -'he'sbaacckk'. Ish Obama 2.0- here we go. Another war and in bed with Iran &BLM. [sic]"

But not everyone thought the audiobook was too long, with one fan describing it as "29 hours of pure bliss."

Another wrote: "Just used my crisp new Audible credit to buy the new @BarackObama book and it's 29 hours of that voice, you guys. TWENTY-NINE HOURS. Whatever is ailing me will surely be cured by the end."

And another tweeted: "God, Obama is putrid!! He spoke about himself for 29 hours!! Ego maniac, completely lied about everything in his 700 page, second autobiography. SICK can't wait for the next one. If you say it enough it becomes a fact, right?"

A Promised Land details Obama's early life and the first two-and-a-half years he spent living in the White House, up until the killing of Osama Bin Laden.

The 59-year-old explained in the introduction that the book took him longer than he expected to write because "the book kept growing in length and scope" as he wrote about its events, the Guardian reports.

As per The Sun, despite the book costing $45 a copy, it broke sales records selling 887,000 copies, ebooks, and audiobooks sold in the US and Canada in the first 24 hours of its release.

The only book to sell more copies within 24 hours was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

A Promised Land can be purchased at all major book retailers.
