Fans were left shocked when it was first announced that the 55-year-old singer had filed for divorce from Affleck.

The pair rekindled their romance in 2022 after calling it quits with their previous partners. The lovebirds were one of Hollywood's most iconic couples when they first started dating in 2002, but they ended up canceling their wedding just days before the date was set the following year.

However, almost two decades later, the couple reunited - and this time, they actually made it down the aisle, cementing their love in an intimate ceremony in July 2022, but after two years of marriage, the pair have had enough.

The 'Jenny from the Block' singer filed for divorce from her lover back in August, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.

"She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken..." a source told PEOPLE. "The kids are a top priority, as they always have been."

Lopez is mom to twins Max and Emme with ex Marc Anthony, and Affleck shares three children Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel, with his former wife, Jennifer Garner.

In the filing, the Atlas star added that she did not want to receive nor give spousal support and had planned on fully separating all their assets.

Despite this, the soon-to-be-divorced couple have continued to work together professionally, and it seems as though Affleck only has good things to say about the experience.

Lopez stars as the mother of a one-legged athlete in the upcoming movie Unstoppable, which Affleck directed alongside fellow actor Matt Damon, via their production company, Artists Equity.

In a new interview for Entertainment Tonight, the Hypnotic star opened up about it while discussing another project titled Small Things Like These starring Cillian Murphy, who was also present.

"Unstoppable is a very different movie than this, but in a way it’s similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists," said Affleck. "Billy Goldenberg and Jennifer and Don Cheadle and Jharrel... All of them were really passionate about this film."

“We really believe in the power of storytelling when the people involved in it are deeply emotionally connected to the story,” he continued before noting that "Jennifer is spectacular" in the movie.

"It’s another one that we’re really, really proud of," he added. "We believed in the right people, and Unstoppable is another example of that."

It's nice to see that the couple can put their personal differences to the side and still create meaningful art together.

Unstoppable is set to hit US theatres in December.
