Outspoken stand-up comedian Bill Burr has divided viewers on social media after his appearance at last night's Grammys.
According to Pink News, the 52-year-old Breaking Bad star pushed a number of viewers' buttons while presenting the several awards at the Premiere Ceremony, which aired before the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, March 14.
Burr's typically brash and unapologetic comedy style appeared to rub a number of Twitter users the wrong way, especially after he made a joke about killing himself following a piano performance.
The backlash against Burr only intensified when he quipped about the inevitable outrage that would follow the broadcast of his routine, joking: "How many feminists are, like, going nuts? 'Why is this cis white male doing all this Latino stuff?'"
The Mandalorian star topped it off by struggling to pronounce winner Natalia Lafourcade's name (something which he was audibly apologetic for).
As a result of this, a number of Twitter users have since taken to social media to express their outrage over Burr's conduct, with many accusing him of unprofessional and offensive behavior.
For instance, one person wrote: "Well that was rude, completely uncalled for and very insulting to every classical musician out there @billburr #GRAMMYs [sic]"
Another furious Twitter user commented: "f*** bill burr and f*** the Grammys [sic]"
A third wrote: "The @RecordingAcad needs to own up to this failure of selecting Bill Burr as a presenter. What a terrible choice.
"He clearly does not recognize how important this is for artists. If you can't get a presenter who gives a f*** how do you expect anyone to take you seriously?"
Another person added: "The Grammys: we’re not racist, we respect diversity. Also the Grammys: *has Bill Burr disrespect several artists of color while presenting* The true colors are showing. [sic]"
Finally, someone else added: "i miss 10 minutes ago when i didn't know who bill burr was [sic]"
However, others took to Twitter to defend the comedian and pledged their support for his confrontational and irreverent style of comedy.
For instance, one person wrote: "Yall really mad at Bill Burr for this?? What a bunch of snowflakes! [sic]"
Meanwhile, someone else wrote: "@billburr was amazing as the presenter of the #GRAMMYs Thank you for always being hilarious. [sic]"
A third Twitter user wrote: "Bill Burr is hilarious and I wish I could make him a sandwich and a hot cup of coffee to thank him for being himself at the insufferable Grammys."
Another person chimed in: "The @RecordingAcad used to be worth watching but the past few years have really fallen off and have become a joke. @billburr’s 6 min this year was the only part of that joke that was worth watching! Thanks Burr! [sic"
Finally, someone else wrote: "Bill Burr actually made the Grammys semi-relevant for a few minutes. They got what they wanted."
