Bill Maher has been criticized online for his comments about Jada Pinkett Smith's alopecia.
It has become well-documented in recent days that the 50-year-old actress has an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss.
In fact, last Sunday, her husband Will Smith sought to defend her when Chris Rock made a joke about her shaved head while presenting the award for Best Documentary at the Oscars.
Taking to the stage, the actor slapped Rock - a moment that shocked attendees at the ceremony as well as those watching at home.
Celebrities and ordinary people alike have been commenting on the shocking outburst for almost an entire week now.
And speaking on HBO's Real Time, Bill Maher also weighed in - and made it perfectly clear that he has little sympathy for Pinkett Smith.
“If you are so lucky in life as to have that be your medical problem, just say ‘thank God,’” Maher joked. “It’s not life threatening. It’s part of, for most people, 80 percent of men, 50 percent of women, it’s part of aging.”
Maher continued: “Aging is, trust me I know, it’s the degradation of the flesh. It happens to all of us. And you know, just put on a f***ing wig like everybody else at the Oscars if it bothers you so much.”
Check out what Maher had to say below:Needless to say, people were appalled by Maher's complete lack of empathy with regards to Pinkett Smith's condition.
One person wrote: "I think Jada Smith looks amazing. She is a beautiful woman and I like her just the way she is. As for Bill Mayer.... shut your mouth!"
Another added: "Just mean. A much as I'm not a fan of Will Smith and Jada and thought this situation was ridiculous, these kind of statements are mean and unnecessary... We are so divided as a nation as it is and have no regard for human life and just unkind, it's truly sad."
A third said: "Wow that's mean. She looks beautiful without hair."
It all went down last Sunday when Rock, expecting little more than a few laughs, joked at the time: "Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can't wait to see it." In response, the actress could be seen rolling her eyes, while her husband, Smith, initially appeared to laugh at the gag.
The situation then took an unexpected turn when the Independence Day star suddenly launched onto the stage and slapped the funnyman, who responded in shock, saying: "Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me."
Smith then told Rock to "leave my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth," with the comedian defending the gag as merely a "G.I. Jane joke." This retort prompted Smith to scream even louder: "Leave my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth."
Despite sparking controversy around the world for resorting to violence, Smith was later awarded the gong for Best Actor for his role in King Richard. He has since apologized to the Academy and Rock.
