Cindy Crawford has opened up about the time she was scolded by a "controlling" manager for voicing her concerns during a Sports Illustrated photoshoot.

The 54-year-old American has had a successful career being scantily clad in front of the camera, but she revealed that it was not without its downsides.

In an interview with Red magazine, Crawford said: "I have done a lot of nudes and swimsuit shoots, but the ones you regret are the times you feel pressured in the moment.

"When I did Playboy with Herb Ritts, I felt totally comfortable.

"I could have killed the whole shoot if I wanted and that allowed me to do it in a way that felt safe.

"But there were times when I haven't felt I had a voice," she added.

Crawford then went onto describe a "controlling" person she encountered, who was not happy when she expressed her opinion about the shoot.

She said: "I did the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue early in my career and the woman overseeing it was very controlling.

"I remember getting to Thailand and she wanted me to wear a turban for the first shot.

"At the time, I thought, I am not sure the guys who read Sports Illustrated think that turbans are very sexy, and I voiced that, and she did not like it."

The model explained that speaking out was not without consequence and said: "I ended up only having one small picture in the magazine.

"I thought, 'Wow, I'm being reprimanded for speaking my mind – I'm not really down with that.'"

The model made the revelation when opening up to Red magazine about her past failures and comes after she shared a bikini snap from 1994 for the first date challenge.

The snap was shared on Instagram and features her and her now-husband, Rande Gerber, embracing on a beach in the mid-'90s.

The now-54-year-old can be seen wearing a white bikini with colorful embellishments while Gerber, now-57-years-old, sports a plain white tee.

"Our first trip, 1994," Crawford captioned the photo, including a yellow sun emoji. "@stephaniejcoffey put me up me to the #firstdatechallenge."

While the picture wasn't technically from their first date, Crawford added: "I think this counts!"
