Conor McGregor and Mike Tyson are two of the biggest names in combat sports. McGregor is a former UFC lightweight champion and featherweight champion, whose headline match with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 drew 2.4 million pay per view buys, the most in history. Meanwhile, Tyson reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion, and the undisputed ear-biting-off champion. And if you ask me, he was cruelly snubbed by the Oscars for his brilliant work in The Hangover.
Last summer, the Irish mixed martial artist took on boxer Floyd Mayweather. Before the much-ballyhooed bout, Tyson was critical about McGregor' chances. "McGregor is going to get killed boxing," said Tyson, during an appearance on Barstool Sports Pardon My Take podcast. "McConor put his dumb ass in a position where he's gonna get knocked out because this guy has been doing this all his life since he was a baby... McConor can't kick and grab and stuff, so he won't stand much of a chance."
Combat fans probably hoped that 51-year-old Tyson and 29-year-old McGregor would resolve their differences in the ring. Instead they squashed their beef by meeting up in Dublin, Ireland, and smoking some weed. And not just any sticky icky; they blazed up KO Kush, a homegrown strain of marijuana from Tyson's gigantic cannabis ranch. On Instagram, McGregor shared a post of the boxing icon exhaling a plume of smoke, and gave his ganja a rave review.
"I went to see Mike Tyson last night in the Helix, Dublin, Ireland. I love and respect Mike Tyson. And I love the Helix. I won my first World Title here, and also my second. It was good to meet you Mike. You spoke some things about me in the past which I did not like and I was happy to speak to you face to face, put it to bed and have some fun. You are in good spirits and I was happy to see this! I will always have the height of respect for you! Some decisions you have made around your finances I do not agree with. As a fighter you must fight here. The most. And this is a fight that never ends. It is even a fight that we pass on to our next in line. Our blood line.
"Make sure you stay switched on with those around you at all times. You have good people around you now, I can tell. But stay switched on. Your Marijuana strain that you grow on your own ranch 'KO Kush' is really nice. It was an honour to taste it and I wish you and your team all the best with this endeavor. Just remember, if someone tries to rip you. Rip their nose off their face. You are a fighting icon and deserve endless love and respect! And from me, you will always have it! Don't let anyone take anything from you. You owe nobody nothing. It is you who is owed. Always remember that."
In a follow-up post, McGregor shared a photo of himself smoking up, and cracking up. "Some giggle off that Cherry Pick Kush," he wrote in the caption. In the comments, some IG users criticized the Irishman for smoking weed, believing it would take him off his game. "Get cannabis out ur lungs lad then maybe you won't gass out half way through fights all the time," wrote on person, while another commented, "Then the man wonders why he can't win a ufc fight pissed up and high every other day..."
Well, if McGregor loses his next match, or fails spectacularly at throwing another football, now he has an excuse.
