David Schwimmer's rep has shut down rumors of a romantic relationship between the actor and his Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston.

It seems that fans, as well as certain media outlets, have gotten a little carried away in the wake of the revelation that Schwimmer, 54, and Aniston, 52 were crushing on each other when they first started filming the hit NBC sitcom.

Schwimmer had made it clear during Friends: The Reunion that the mutual crush occurred in the first season of the show - a whole 27 years ago. But people are still hoping their romance will be reignited after it failed to come to fruition in the 90s.

The rumors came to a head when a so-called insider told Closer that the Friends reunion, which aired in May, "stirred up feelings for both of them" and that Schwimmer even "flew from his home in New York to see Jen in LA."

But Schwimmer's rep has now quashed the rumor, telling HuffPost UK, that there is "no truth" to it.

In the Friends reunion, the American Crime Story star shared with host James Corden that he and Aniston had secret feelings for one another.

He said: "The first season I had a major crush on Jen. And I think we both, at some point, were crushing hard on each other but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary. We respected that."

Aniston, who confirmed that the crush was reciprocated, recalled telling Schwimmer that it would be a "bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is going to be on national television."

She continued: "Sure enough, the first time we kissed was in that coffee shop. So, we just channeled all of our love and adoration for each other into Ross and Rachel."

The Morning Show star later expanded on the story, telling Howard Stern: "We were in relationships, it was always never the right time and it wouldn’t have worked.

"The beauty of that was that whatever feelings we had we just literally channeled everything into Ross and Rachel and I think that’s maybe why it resonated the way it did."
