Reyes underwent liposuction on January 26 at the San Pablo Medical Clinic in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico.
However, her condition deteriorated shortly after the operation, leading to her hospitalization in intensive care. She passed away three days later, per the Daily Mail.
According to her family, the surgeon who performed the procedure was not authorized to do so.
Her uncle, Ammao Rodríguez, stated that Reyes had an adverse reaction to intravenous medication administered during the surgery.
"She starts to feel sick and goes into cardiac arrest and at that moment they take her out of the room where she was in the [clinic]," Rodríguez told the Daily Mail.
Doctors at the clinic reportedly described her condition as "delicate" and instructed her friend to wait outside.
Hours after the surgery, Reyes suffered cardiac arrest and was transferred to the intensive care unit at Manzur Hospital.
The family's lawyer told Infobae Mexico that the doctor responsible for the procedure moved Reyes when her condition worsened, per the Mirror.
"He took her out of the hospital and dropped her off at the Mansur High Specialty Solutions Hospital, which is where he transferred her because they supposedly did not have an intensive care unit," the lawyer said.
He further alleged that the surgeon did not take responsibility for Reyes’ condition following her transfer.
Denisse's sister, Massiel Reyes, paid tribute to her on social media, expressing her grief.
"The day I said goodbye to you, I hugged you, I told you 'See you in Tampico' and I didn't want to let you go," she said. "The situation in which my sister lost her life is private, and for that reason I ask for total respect for the pain of my mother and my nephew Matías."
She also thanked those who had offered condolences.
Reyes found fame in 2022 as a "nenis," a term for women who sell online products in Mexico.
She eventually opened her own store and used her Instagram and TikTok accounts to promote her business in her hometown Tampico, a city in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas.
Her eight-year-old son survives her.
In another story of an influencer tragically passing away, Ricardo Godoi sadly died while getting a back tattoo.
The incident occurred on January 20 in Santa Catarina, Brazil, where Godoi was scheduled to receive general anesthesia before beginning a tattoo that would cover his entire back. Reports indicate that shortly after sedation was administered, he went into cardiac arrest.
"He was quickly checked and a cardiologist was called in to try to revive him, unfortunately without success," the tattoo studio’s owner said in a statement published by the Daily Mail.
The tattoo artist, who described Godoi as a “great friend,” expressed deep sorrow over his passing.
Godoi, a married father and CEO of Godoi Premium Group, was widely recognized for his passion for luxury cars, which he frequently showcased to his 225,000 Instagram followers.
Earlier on the day of his procedure, he had shared news of his appointment, assuring fans he would be back to posting soon.
