Kristen Mary Houghton, better known to us now as Kris Jenner, decided to start a tradition with her children, giving them all names that began with the letter 'K'. However, it looks like her grandchildren won't be following the same tradition. According to some reports, Kim didn't want to use a K name because she thought the media would find a way to refer to her family as the KKK (Kim, Kanye and baby K).
Now that in 2018 we've seen the birth of three more children into the ever-expanding Kardashian-Jenner clan, we can look back on the previous births and see exactly what each name means and why it was chosen.
1. Mason Dash DisickKourtney chose Mason because of something her aunt told her when they were in the decision process. "She told me that Mason means the same thing in English that Kardashian means in Armenian—stone worker," Kourtney told MTV. "Another aunt told me my great uncle used to use the name Mason when he made dinner reservations, because Kardashian was too long.”
While many believed that Mason’s middle name came from his mom’s clothing store, she called that idea "stupid," explaining that "Dash is short for Kardashian, and it was my father's nickname".
2. Penelope Scotland DisickKourtney picked the first name of Penelope for no (known) special reason, but just because they thought it was cute. However, the middle name of Scotland came from a recommendation from Kris Jenner.
3. North WestIn an interview with Vanity Fair, Kim said that Pharrell came up to her and Kanye and told them he thought that North was a really cool idea. She initially shot down the idea, but then said:
"A little while later Anna Wintour came over and asked the same thing. She told us 'North is a genius name.' Kanye and I looked at one another and just laughed. I guess at that point it sort of stuck."
4. Reign Aston DisickKourtney had this name on her list with her previous children, but spelled as 'Rain'. But when once her third child was born she knew this was the one to claim the name. The choice of Aston seems to be so his initial spell 'RAD', as Kourtney frequently references him that way.
5. Saint WestA source told E! that Kimye referred to the baby as 'Saint' throughout the nine months "because [Kim] had such a difficult pregnancy", later calling him "a blessing" when he was born.
6. Dream Renée Kardashian
"Rob and Chyna had the name Dream for a long time," a source told People. "They named her Dream because they’ve always said she’s a dream come true." Dream shares the same middle name as her mother, whose real name is Angela Renée White.
7. Chicago WestNo one was predicting that Kim's third child would be named Chicago. But it made more sense when you take into account that Kanye grew up in South Chicago, often mentioning it in his music.
8. Stormi WebsterThere's been no official reason given for the baby's name, but others have come up with some solution. "The saying goes if a butterfly flaps its wings in one part of the world it creates a ripple and a storm happens in another part of the world," Twitter user Alicia Noemi wrote. "Travis Scott made song called butterfly effect 9 months ago, 9 months later guess who pops out?"
We don't know yet what name Khloé will give her newborn child, but people are already playing the guessing game. "I can barely decide what I want to eat," she recently wrote on Twitter. "Let alone name a baby." So we can only guess at what the name of the third Kardashian child of 2018 will be - could it be as simple as Tristan Jr?
