Interabled couple Shane and Hannah Burcaw reveal the heartbreaking reality behind their private pregnancy
Hannah and Shane Burcaw are an interabled couple with millions of followers on social media, who have recently opened up about their pregnancy.
While most influencer couples would be over the moon to share every step of their pregnancy journey with fans, the pair revealed why it isn't so straightforward for them, admitting they were 'enjoying the privacy'.
The pair is known for sharing their lives as an interabled couple, but they have recently spoken about how they will be covering their pregnancy online, as well as their newborn's life once Hannah gives birth.
They announced that they were expecting their first child on September 8, having subsequently explained more about how their content might change.
A YouTube video posted by the couple last month covered why they didn't share the happy news with followers until five months into the pregnancy, as they admitted they were 'enjoying the privacy'.
Reality behind their pregnancy
The pair opened up about keeping 'online trolls' away from their unborn child, though they first took to Instagram with a positive message.
They wrote: "We are beyond ecstatic to announce that we’re expecting our first child this coming January!
"Hannah is 20 weeks pregnant and although we've been thoroughly enjoying this special time in privacy so far, we've also missed sharing all the joy with you, and there's so much to share."
While Hannah is able-bodied, Shane has spinal muscular atrophy and relies on a wheelchair for mobility.
Speaking about his biggest fears about having a child on the internet, Shane explained in their announcement video: "There are going to be a number of people, a big number of people, who are not happy about this pregnancy announcement, and that’s another reason we haven’t wanted to share with the world.”
He added that there will be 'horrible people' leaving comments and messages about their situation, including claims that he 'cannot and should not be a father because of my disability'.
But he did admit that he has some worries, including 'the extent to which I’ll be able to physically interact with them.'
Importance of protecting their child
Hannah admitted to People that the couple's main priority is to 'protect the privacy of our baby,' admitting that social media isn't 'always great'.
“And we definitely don’t want to subject a child to the kinds of comments that we get," she stated.
Shane added that they have a responsibility as parents to keep their child's privacy as 'they can't speak' for themselves right now.
He added that they will be 'sharing this with the world carefully' and that the pair are 'being deliberate and intentional' with what they share.
Hannah added: “We know what we’ve signed up for, and we’re excited to share our parenting journey, and how we make it work." Hannah told the outlet.
Shane also candidly spoke about his concerns, including whether he'd be able to reach his arms out 'far enough to feel the kicking,' in an honest Facebook post.
He admitted that while 'parenting and love do not require physical ability,' he deals with 'anxieties at times', admitting that it intensified when their baby started kicking in Hannah's womb.
