Jeff Bezos' wife, Lauren Sanchez, has been slammed for wearing an "inappropriate" dress at Trump’s state dinner.
The 56-year-old attended the prestigious event with her billionaire husband, wearing an off-the-shoulder Alexander McQueen dress with a deep neckline that highlighted her striking diamond necklace.
The former journalist completed the look with what appeared to be a tennis necklace of large emerald-cut diamonds and diamond drop earrings that complemented her black, form-fitting dress.
While she was going for a timeless look, not everyone was impressed.
Sanchez attended the state dinner alongside Bezos as Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping and several prominent American business leaders at the White House.
Many people took to X to state that her look was "inappropriate" for the occasion.
One user blasted: "Money does not buy one class. She dresses terribly. So inappropriate."
Another shared, "Have some dignity for goodness sake. This is a state dinner, and you are 56 years old."
"Her diamond could feed a lot of starving children," a third chimed in, while a fourth added: "She’s a beautiful woman, the dress is beautiful, BUT there is also something called appropriateness and etiquette (the occasion)...her husband should’ve told her to "tone it down.'"
Rather than choosing a traditional evening gown or skirt, as is often customary for the event, the first lady, also 56, opted for an entirely different look.
Melania wore a pair of high-waisted black Dolce & Gabbana pants, reportedly costing $1,945, and paired them with a white Saint Laurent blouse featuring a high collar and oversized bow at the neck, priced at around $2,300.
That put the cost of the outfit at approximately $4,245 before factoring in her shoes and accessories.
She completed the look with black pointed-toe heels and diamond stud earrings, and wore her signature makeup while styling her honey-blonde hair swept away from her face.
Her fashion choice sparked a reaction online, with some people questioning whether pants were appropriate for the black-tie occasion.
One person wrote: "Melania needs a new wardrobe designer. She looked like she was going to a funeral in one shot then in another that big bow is just ridiculous and pants? COME ON YOU HAVE A DUTY TO LOOK RESPECTABLE AND FASHIONABLE NOT LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF A FAIRY TALE."
Another person was similarly unimpressed, posting: "Melania should have worn a skirt or a dress. That outfit is too casual. She’s always impeccable. This is a miss."
It is not the first time Melania's wardrobe has caused a commotion.
San Diego-based stylist and image consultant, Cynthia Kennedy, previously revealed to the Daily Mail that the first lady uses fashion to project an "independent" and "rebellious" look.
Cynthia described Melania as "wearing what SHE wants, from her favorite designers - mostly European luxury brands like Dolce and Gabbana - and she's making it clear that this job is something she's doing on her own terms. What she's doing may not necessarily be modern, but it is strategic."
"She's not doing what people expect. She's not wearing safe, dull, traditional First Lady fashion," Cynthia added.
