Ortega, best known for her hit role as Wednesday Addams in Netflix's hit series Wednesday, made her on-screen debut in 2012 at just nine years old but was propelled to new heights of fame over the past few years with appearances in the Scream franchise, as well as Miller's Girl.

Recently, she's also joined a star-studded line-up for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which is set to be released early next month.

With all that talent, you would naturally assume that Ortega has never been rejected for a role before, but hey, even the best of the best still have their disappointments.

The 21-year-old recently opened up about going for Zendaya's role as Chani in the iconic Dune series, which hit the big screens earlier this year.

The movie, which was released back in March, took the title for highest-rated IMDb movie before it was officially released beating out big names like The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather, but it was also trending all over social media at the time.

Part Two of the franchise went out to explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (played by Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Zendaya received immense praise for her portrayal of the character (of course), but some wondered how Ortega would have played Chani as she recently admitted to auditioning for the role when she was only 15 years old.

In a new puppy interview with BuzzFeed, the actress was asked about a role people would be surprised to learn she auditioned for.

“I auditioned for Dune when I was about 15,” Ortega recalled in the video. "I remember just being a big fan of that film, franchise, and everything like that."

Ortega added that she was “really excited” for the audition since Villeneuve is “one of [her] favorite filmmakers.”

She noted that while she wasn't entirely sure whose spot she would have taken, she had a feeling it was Zendaya's.

“I think it was Chani, I think it was Zendaya’s. But they weren’t saying that. Everything was very secret," she confessed.

According to The Numbers, Dune grossed $709,872,180 at the worldwide box office, which is almost 300 million more than the first movie made.
