Jennifer Lopez has already made plans to change her name after she filed for divorce from her ex-husband Ben Affleck, just two years after getting married.
The 'Jenny from the Block' singer filed for divorce from her lover earlier this week, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason.
"She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken..." a source told PEOPLE. "The kids are a top priority, as they always have been."
Lopez is mom to 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex Marc Anthony, and Affleck shares Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with his ex Jennifer Garner.
In the filing, the Atlas star added that she said she did not want to receive nor give spousal support.
She checked to separate their property (assets and debts), adding: "The exact nature and extent of separate property assets and obligations are unknown to Petitioner at this time. Petitioner reserves the right to amend this Petition when same is ascertained."
While the news may have only just broken, the 55-year-old singer listed her separation date as April 26, over three months after submitting the divorce.
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2022 after calling it quits with their previous partners. The lovebirds were one of Hollywood's most iconic couples when they first started dating in 2002, but they ended up canceling their wedding just days before the date was set the following year,
However, almost two decades later, the couple reunited - and this time, they actually made it down the aisle, cementing their love in an intimate ceremony in July 2022, but after two years of marriage, the pair have had enough.
Lopez is seemingly ready to make Affleck just a memory of the past as in the filing she stated that she wishes to return to her old name, Jennifer Lynn Lopez, officially removing Affleck from her moniker.
In the wake of the announcement, a source has revealed one of the potential reasons for the split, claiming that the 52-year-old actor’s extreme and sudden changes in mood ultimately drove a wedge between them, as per a separate report by PEOPLE.
"The truth is there was a great deal of love but also unfortunately what became clear were Ben's erratic mood swings that he couldn't hide from the press, as much as he tried to,” the source told the outlet.
"You could see the erratic behavior, the giant mood swings,” the source continued, describing how the actor would go from “being incredibly happy and warm - the best light that emanated from him” to exhibiting “the deepest, darkest behavior.”
“I think he was signaling a message to the press,” the source added. “But yet participating.”
It seems as though the pair gave it their best shot and it clearly did not work out. We wish them the best moving forward with their lives.
