Referring to him as a "megastar, 'I Think I'm In Love With You' singer revealed she first met him at the 2001 Video Music Awards.
"This megastar, who I grew up thinking was so hot, eyeballed me up and down. Like he was undressing me with his eyes," Simpson penned in her Amazon essay, which was published on Wednesday, February 1.
The two hit it off straight away while the pop star came to terms with her high-profile break up from her ex-husband Nick Lachey, who she was married to from 2002 to 2006 following an on-and-off romance.
According to Simpson's recollection, she did not feel "ready" to take the fling any further after the VMAs afterparty. However, she later bumped into him at a gym in Los Angeles, where she asked him to appear in a music video of hers.

"‘You could be my lead guy,' I offered to this man who made millions and millions per film," she wrote in the essay.
Things did not go any further romantically due to Simpson patching things up with Lachey in September 2001, with the Blonde Ambition star deciding against calling the actor back.
However, when Simpson and Lachey ended things for good, she reconciled with the actor, according to her book.
"I felt this warm rush all the way down my body to the tips of my toes in my wedges," the singer, who released her previous memoir Open Book in 2020, wrote.
Despite sharing a passionate first kiss, Simpson later came across red carpet snaps of her actor beau and his girlfriend.

"I was never ever in a million years going to be the other woman," she wrote, claiming that the actor told her their relationship was "completely over" and he was only interested in dating Simpson.
The two carried on their romance, going to events at nightclubs together and chatting about the birth of Simpson's goddaughter.
Simpson even paid her man a visit while he was on set filming a movie. She admits, though, that the visit made her feel like she was only there to sleep with the star.
"Yes, there was something sexy and enticing about all this, but there was also something demeaning about it. I felt like a call girl," Simpson said in her book, adding it felt like he was trying to "hide" her from his "chick."
She continued: "I didn't care if he was my teenage fantasy come to life, this was not a choice that same girl, my younger self, would be proud of."
