Kate Beckinsale has gone viral on social media this week after posting a rare throwback photo after her daughter turned 22-years-old.
The 37-year-old Underworld actress took to her official Instagram account on Sunday, January 31, to share an adorable picture of herself and her baby girl with her 4.6 million followers.
The black-and-white image dates back to 1999, and shows Beckinsale, then just 22-years-old herself, cradling her daughter Lily.
Beckinsale captioned the post: "Well 22 you sly dog. Happy birthday @lily_sheen the best person ever invented. Lucky lucky me (even after that volcanic poo you did in Tootsies shortly before this photo was taken ) [sic]."
Suffice it to say, Beckinsale's sweet and maternal post quickly picked up a lot of attention online and has currently accrued over 144,000 likes and over 1,116 comments from other social media users as of the time of writing.
For instance, one person wrote: "Happy birthday to the OG over there!! you were a baby!!! [sic]"
Another commenter wrote: "Kate has some superhuman decelerated aging genetics. I think she really is part vampire... [sic]"
Someone else added: "You look 12."
Finally, one last commenter wrote: "22!!! you literally look 12. [sic]"
Per Hello!, Lily Sheen was born in 1999 in London to Beckinsale and her ex-partner, the Welsh actor Michael Sheen. The couple reportedly first met in 1995 during a theatrical production of the Anton Chekov play The Seagull.
They parted ways eight years later in 2003, but have remained on good terms ever since, regularly posting pictures of themselves together with their daughter on Instagram.
In a post made back in 2018, Beckinsale uploaded a picture of herself, Sheen, and Lily all gurning to the camera together, and jokingly captioned the pic: "What we liked so much about Michael's response to: 'Do a kissy face' was how much it looked like someone blissfully releasing a really long-held in wee. [sic]"
Commenting on her close platonic relationship with her ex-partner Sheen in a 2016 interview on the YouTube show Popcorn with Peter Travers, Beckinsale stated: "He's really dear, close family. He's somebody I've known since I was 21 years old. I really love him a lot."
