He's the hero we all deserve, but apparently not the one we need right now...

Keanu Reeves has opened up about his love of Batman and his desire to one day play the Caped Crusader on the big screen in a live-action movie.

The 57-year-old actor recently walked the red carpet of his new movie, DC's League of Super-Pets. The film tells the story of DC's greatest superhero's pets - with Dwayne Johnson playing Superman's dog, Krypto, and Kevin Hart plating Batman's pup, Ace.

Reeves provides his vocal talents as Bruce Wayne, marking the first time the actor has ever played The Dark Knight.

As he walked the red carpet for the movie's premiere on Saturday, Reeves spoke with several reporters about his love of Batman and whether or not he would play the superhero in a live-action movie.

Speaking to Extra, he said: "I love Batman as a character - and I love him in the comic books and in the films. So to get the opportunity to voice-- to play Batman, was awesome."

When asked if he would ever consider suiting up as Batman in a live-action role, Reeves said: "It's been a dream, but [Robert] Pattinson's got Batman right now - he's doing awesome. So, maybe down the road - maybe when they need an older Batman."

In a separate interview with PEOPLE, Reeves revealed that he "never came close" to playing Batman throughout his career, despite voicing his love for the superhero.

"I really love Batman, as a kid - comic books - I was reading Batman, Dark Knight," Reeves told AP.  "There's been so many incarnations of the character and it's a character I've always wanted to play.

And after expressing his desire to perhaps one day play an older version of Bruce Wayne on the big screen, it wasn't long before Twitter users voiced their support for the idea.

"I absolutely adore Robert Pattinson as batman but if Keanu Reeves had the opportunity to play as him - yo, that would be so f****** dope," wrote one Twitter user.

A second added: "Love to see Keanu Reeves as an alternative Batman."

"I would most definitely take a Keanu Reeves Batman movie," tweeted a third.

As it stands, there are several actors gearing up to play Gotham's Caped Crusader.

Following the success of The Batman, Robert Pattinson is reportedly returning to the role in a sequel.

Additionally, both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton are reprising their respective Batmans in the upcoming DC movie, The Flash. Keaton will also play an older Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Batgirl movie, with Leslie Grace playing the titular hero.

Let's hope, one day, we get a see Keanu live out his dream.
