Truth behind Lil Wayne seemingly announcing he's engaged to a 23-year-old
Lil Wayne seemingly revealed that he plans to marry 23-year-old Madi Cannon while recording a congratulatory message to his longtime friend and fellow Cash Money Hot Boy B.G., who is engaged to his new fiancée, Brooke Jones.
"Congratulations b***h," the 44-year-old said before pointing the camera at Cannon and sharing an unexpected update about his love life.
"And I’m marrying this one - this is Madison. This is my fiancée," he continued. "And congratulations. Let us know what color we’re wearing. I’m the best man, you hear me? Love you b***h."
B.G. didn’t address Lil Wayne’s supposed engagement, but he was delighted that his friend supported the arrangement.
"My lil Brodie gave me his blessings @liltunechi," he penned in the caption.
Fans flooded the comments to share their shock at Wayne's announcement.
One user said: "I was wondering if Wayne was gone get married! Nah, I’m not wondering no more."
Another user pointed out that Cannon is younger than Wayne's eldest child, Reginae Carter, 27, saying: "Her being younger than reginae will never sit right with me i don’t care."
A third echoed: "She look younger then his daughter."
A fourth user slammed B.G. for posting the video when Wayne hasn't publicly announced the engagement yet.
"This was a personal & you posted it? Crazy work," they said.
Lil Wayne had previously denied being engaged
The 'A Milli' rapper's statement has raised eyebrows, as just a few months ago, he made it clear that he wasn’t settling down just yet - and suggested that his relationship with Cannon ended.
"I would like to clear something up," he told his fans in a live stream. "No, I’m not engaged. I had a beautiful thing going on with an amazing person.
"But, obviously, due to the validity of the temperature of today’s crazy world and culture, I considered, I don’t want to be such a burden on such an amazing person. So, we decided to part. Sucks," he added.
The Grammy-winning musician has had a long dating history with several engagements, including with R&B singer Nivea and actress Lauren London.
He has been married once to Toya Johnson, his former high school sweetheart and mother of his first child, Reginae. The pair divorced in 2006.
Wayne also has sons Dwayne Carter III, 17, with radio personality Sarah Vivan, Kameron, 17, with London, and Neal, 16, with Nivea.
Over the years, Wayne has spoken up about spending time with his kids at various sports events and red carpets, while also opening up about how important fatherhood is to his life.
"Important ain’t even the word. That’s life," he said on an episode of All the Smoke in 2023. "Like you need food to live, that’s just how it goes.
"I didn’t have a father, and it’s not easy to do something that wasn’t done for you, but I figured it out. I’m at the age now where it isn’t a challenge no more. Their love cancels all the challenges out," he added.
The record label founder has also praised the mothers of his children in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2009. "The mothers of my kids are great," he said.
