A lip reader has revealed what really went down between Margaret Qualley and Emma Stone after the pair appeared to square up to one another on the red carpet.
The cameras caught the moment at the 2025 Oscars where the pair crossed paths backstage and appeared to have a heated exchange.
Emma, 36, was seen walking backward defensively as Margaret, 30, came toward her, nodding her head firmly, making it look like the pair were squaring off.
Margaret's husband, Jack Antonoff, 40, could be seen standing to one side looking taken aback, until another woman came over to speak to Emma and broke up the moment.

They wrote: "Are the girls fighting?" and: "Wait were they about to fight?"
Another commented: "What ever that was, out of line , Emma body language says that she’s being confronted aggressively. Shameful."
A lip reader has now shed light on what the Substance star was actually saying to Emma in the moment.
Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Daily Mail: "It looks like Margaret is about to square up in this scene, giving Emma her mean girl look.
"Don’t worry, they are not fighting though. They do this all the time.
"In fact, Margaret says to Emma, 'Yeah and I am about to freak out.'"
While many people believed the pair actually had beef, others pointed out that it's not actually a new bit for the actresses.
Emma and Margaret have a history of playfighting on the red carpet at previous events, though it's usually more obviously a joke than this one appeared to be, such as when they met on the red carpet at Cannes.
Other fans pointed this fact out in the comments, writing: "Just so you all know, they do this at almost every awards show they go to. It’s their inside joke. Do some research before commenting on what you do not know people."
Another added: "There are so many clips of them just messing around I don’t think they were fighting there is a video from the same night Emma helped her with Margaret’s dress bc it was getting stepped on."
Emma did indeed step in to help Margaret with her dress, after apologizing for repeatedly stepping on its long train.
The pair appear to be very good friends and even starred opposite each other in the 2024 movie Kinds of Kindness.
Margaret wasn't the only one accidentally making headlines at the 2025 Oscars as her husband, Jack Antonoff, also went viral for his reaction to Demi Moore losing out on the Best Actress award to Mikey Madison for her role in Anora.
Jack - who was seated behind Demi - appeared to be astounded when the name was called out, before turning to Margaret.
Fans quickly spotted the fleeting moment, commenting: "The way u can see jack antonoff and Demi Moore look disappointed for a sec," and: "Jack Antonoff's reaction when Mikey Madison won the #Oscar over Demi Moore (the favorite) hahahaha."
