Macaulay Culkin has reminded fans of his real name after the actor legally changed it in 2019.
The Home Alone star, 45, opened up about his name change at A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin, an event celebrating the 35th anniversary of Home Alone, on Saturday, November 22, at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in California.
There, he reminded people that his name is no longer just Macaulay Culkin after having polled people back in 2018 to decide on a new name to legally change it to.
He'd originally revealed his plans to switch up his name during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in November 2018.
Culkin then initiated a poll on his website Bunny Ears, challenging his fans to propose a new middle name for him through a public vote in order to rid him of a middle name that he himself candidly described as "something dumb."
The actor, whose full birth name is Macaulay Carson Culkin, explained: "My middle name is something dumb. Larry? Orange? Honestly, I can't even remember it.
"So I asked you all to send in some better options so I can go down to the courthouse and explain to a judge why I need to change my middle name to something cool."
The response from his fans was overwhelming, with "hundreds of suggestions" pouring in. Among the creative and quirky proposals were names like "Shark Week", "Kieran" (a nod to his younger actor brother), "TheMcRibIsBack", and "Publicity Stunt."
Following an impressive tally of 10,000 votes, a clear winner emerged: "Macaulay Culkin" - meaning the actor's new legal name is now officially "Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin."
He confirmed during his recent appearance that he is very much still going with his updated name, telling fans: "My name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin."
Culkin addressed the other options, adding: "Macaulay Kieran Culkin. That would be great. I love my brother. Between me and him we have exactly one Oscar," referring to Kieran Culkin's Oscar win in March for his performance in A Real Pain.
"The final vote was Macaulay Culkin," he continued. "So my name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin. If somebody comes up to me at the airport and says, 'Excuse me, are you Macaulay Culkin?' I can say, 'Well, Macaulay Culkin is my middle name.'"
He revealed that was the main driving factor to his name change, adding: "I did it all for that one joke. And a bit on Fallon."
The 35th anniversary event also included a screening of Home Alone as well as a Q&A with the star, who played Kevin McCallister, a child who has to single-handedly fend off burglars when his family forget and leave him at home alone.
As well as the 1990 original, Culkin reprised the role in the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
The classic movies are a hit in the Culkin household too, as the actor revealed that his own son Dakota believes he is the child on screen, not his father.
Culkin told E! News: "He thinks he's Kevin. I'm like, ‘Do you remember going down the stairs on the sled?' He's like, ‘Mmhmm, yep. Sure do.' I'm like, ‘Do you remember when he had yellow hair?' And he's like, ‘Uh-huh, yep.''
