Mia Khalifa is one of those rare porn actors who has managed to break out of the adult entertainment industry and become mainstream - and she might also be the world's first-ever viral porn celebrity.

She made her first foray into NSFW movies back in 2014, and ended up ranking number one on a number of X-Rated sites after an infamous video emerged of her performing sexual acts while wearing a hijab.

But despite her fame, many are surprised to learn that the Lebanese-American only had a brief stint in porn, and has since worked as as a paralegal and bookkeeper. She's recently transitioned into a career as a social media personality, webcam model and sports commentator, and has now claimed that she only made a meagre $12,000 in her former career.

Check out this clip from Mia's interview below:

In a gigantic 120-minute-long interview with Megan Abbott, Mia opened up about her experiences in the industry, and the public's misconceptions of her.  Taking to Twitter to post a clip from the interview, Mia wrote: "People think I’m racking in millions from porn. Completely untrue. I made a TOTAL of around $12,000 in the industry and never saw a penny again after that. Difficulty finding a normal job after quitting porn was... scary. [sic]"

She added: "To clarify, I was never promised 'millions', nor do I expect it. I’m just clarifying common misconceptions about me, and in turn, about the industry ... I was involved in porn so briefly, but my actions spread like wildfire, and I continue to be ranked (truly baffles me) 5 years after leaving the industry. This is why people think I still perform. [sic]"

Responding to negative comments expressed by trolls in a later tweet, Mia stated that her critics were: "Sleeping on mattresses without a bed frame, while I’m currently tweeting this from airplane Wifi on a first-class flight overseas that cost more than I made my entire brief time in porn, sitting next to a man who loves me unconditionally ... life turns on you quick. [sic]"

However, some people were far more positive about the video, and supported Mia's statements:

Furthermore, when some commenters took issue with the fact that Mia makes money by using her stage name, and claimed that the title of the video was misleading, Mia responded by stating:

"Title is not misleading at all if you actually listen to the interview. I talk about the misconception of how much I/other girls make in the industry, I’m not lamenting on what I did earn. But you clearly have deeper issues with me past this, so good luck with your bitter life. [sic]"
