Sir Mick Jagger, 79, has responded to reports he's engaged to former ballet dancer Melanie Hamrick, 36.
The couple, who have been romantically linked since 2014, first stoked engagement rumors when Hamrick was seen sporting a ring on her finger. At the time, Hamrick dispelled the rumors, jokingly referring to the jewelry as a "promise ring."
The engagement speculation was reignited following a trip to New York, with a close source telling The Mirror, "Melanie was at the American Ballet Theater and she was telling her friends she was engaged to Mick. Her family also very much understands them to be engaged and are thrilled."
Comparing their relationship dynamic to that of "horny teenagers," Melanie confirmed to People magazine that the Rolling Stones icon did indeed give her the ring, but it symbolizes more of a promise than a formal engagement.
"I mean, I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes," she said. "But are we like, horny teenagers where we’re giving each other… In my mind, it's a promise ring. We'll be immature and call it a promise ring."
When discussing the prospect of marriage, she said: "I don’t know. I'm kind of like, a live-in-the-moment type of person, so who knows."
But despite the reports, the pair - who share a six-year-old son, Deveraux - have no plans to walk down the aisle.
In fact, reps for the rocker told the Independent that the rumors are nothing more than "ill-informed gossip" and that it's "not true" that they plan to tie the knot.
The couple, who previously collaborated on the 2019 ballet Porte Rouge, with Hamrick choreographing to Stones' music, cherish their shared work but prefer to keep their careers separate.
Melanie expressed: "We are in such similar careers, to keep it separate is better... It's nice to have outside opinions, someone that isn't in it with you. They can give you really solid advice. So I prefer the separation from work."
The author and ballet dancer also expressed her desire for privacy, especially when it comes to sharing her personal life and her son on social media platforms. She believes that the details of one's home life should remain private.
The 'Paint It Black' singer has a complex family tree, with seven other children stemming from four different relationships. Jagger was once married to Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias from 1971 to 1978. His notable romantic relationships also include model-and-actress Jerry Hall, 67, from 1977 to 1999, and the late model-turned-stylist L'Wren Scott, from 2001 until her death in 2014.
