Audiences at Milan Fashion Week were left in shock after the Diesel show 'descended into an orgy', leaving onlookers confused.
Diesel's Spring/Summer 2027 show started off as normal this week, but Creative Director Glenn Martens had a surprise in store to make sure it was one that would be hard to forget.
Mid-way through, the lights suddenly flashed to red as models that had secretly been scattered throughout the audience suddenly began kissing each other passionately, moaning, and touching one another suggestively.
The spectacle began as Donna Summer's 'Love To Love You Baby' played in the background, as things turned steamy.
One video, shared by model and content creator Luca Mornet, went viral as he captioned it: "I’ve never been more confused in my whole life??? @diesel."
He added in overlay text: "wtf is going on at the Diesel show," as he looked concerned before zooming in to different acts in the audience, including a man sucking his fingers erotically, and others kissing and touching in between unsuspecting fashion fans.
People shared their shock in the comments, writing: "I don’t know if this is art or nah but I lowkey feel traumatized," and: "A fashion show becoming a orgy show. No thanks."
Others added: "I would’ve walked right out," and: "Were they at least WEARING DIESEL clothing? Cause ughm whats the purpose Lol."
One joked: "That’s disgusting and shameful… where can I buy tickets?", and: "Not me immediately jumping into character, pretending to be in on it."
As the show reached its conclusion, the intimate show turned into headbanging instead.
Martens said of the show, per AP: "Every season we try to do something unexpected. This one was a bit more … experimental.
"I think the whole celebration of being body positive and loving each other is part of the Diesel DNA."
Viewers also questioned the collection of clothing on display, which seemed to get progressively smaller as the show progressed, with some models walking the runway in nothing but a denim pair of underpants.
Despite the controversy, Martens received a standing ovation at the end of the show.
Martens is set to leave Diesel, which he joined in 2020, but will stay on at parent company OTB’s Maison Margiela, the avant-garde Paris couture house.
Martens added: "[At Diesel] we never pretended to be a luxury brand, even though we were on during fashion week.
"We also wanted to do more alternative things, and think about the community. I think that’s what I try to celebrate, but also with respect for the clothes."
