Millie Bobby Brown has hit back at people calling her out for losing her British accent.

Earlier this month, viewers were left baffled after hearing Millie Bobby Brown speak during her interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Have a look at the interview below:

Despite the 20-year-old Stranger Things star always being known for her strong British accent, fans couldn't help but comment on her new American twang.

"Her British accent is barely there anymore I know she's been in America for a long time now but omg it used to be SO strong," one person commented, with a second adding: "It almost sounds like she's doing an impersonation of an American accent throughout this interview."

Others also compared the Enola Holmes star's new accent to that of a "rich valley girl", with one person writing: "Millie speaks like a rich valley girl now like damn it's like the accent is there but barely."

Now it seems that Bobby Brown - who grew up in Bournemouth, England, but moved to Florida when she was eight - has had enough of people commenting on her voice.

During a junket interview with Max Balegde for her upcoming movie, Damsel, the presenter said raised the topic of Bobby Brown's accent, which led to the actor looking into the camera and saying: "But let me just speak to that real quick...

"So, I’m an actor. I grew up in the public eye. I grew up in America. I come to set and I’m an actor and I adapt. I want to mimic people.

"I can’t help that when I’m around my fiancé [Jake Bongiovi] or when I’m around Jimmy Fallon, who [both] have a very American accent, I want to replicate it.

"I don’t do it intentionally and I’m sorry if it offends you," the Stranger Things star added, before shouting at the camera: "But listen, I’m trying my best!"

Responses to the video were - as you could have probably guessed - mixed, with some people continuing to criticize the actress. "While Millie Bobby Brown's accent fluctuates for no apparent reason, James Corden is also British who has lived in America for eight years, and has maintained a consistent British accent," one person wrote.

While others praised the star for defending herself, with one fan writing: "I think this just made me love Millie Bobby Brown."

And while we're speaking about the young star's blossoming engagement to Bongiovi, Bobby Brown recalled the incredible moment he proposed to her while underwater.

"So we go under, and we're many meters down and he gives me like, a shell. And I turn it over and it’s a ring," she told Fallon. She then described how she put the ring on her finger before it slid off and "plummeted" deep into the water, prompting her new fiancé to swim after it.
