Some people have been left stunned after figuring out why Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's children are called Willow and Jaden.

Will, 54, and his wife Jada, 51, have been delighting fans in film, TV, and music for almost three decades but it seems like over the past couple of years, they made headlines for several reasons - examples: the infamous Oscars slap and the whole "entanglement" debacle.

Regardless, the couple's children have still managed to make a name for themselves by following in their parent's footsteps. Jaden, 25, co-starred with his dad in the 2006 film The Pursuit of Happiness and the 2013 sci-fi flick After Earth, while Willow, 22, made a small appearance in the 2007 film I Am Legend and cemented a music career.

As the famous family has been entertaining fans for a long time, it feels like we know almost everything about them. However, despite being crystal clear to some of us, it has taken others this long to understand why Jaden and Willow are called what they are.

Some users on X - formerly known as Twitter - were left in shock when they realized that the two youngsters got their names from their parents.

One person wrote: "I was today years old when I realized Jaden and Willow Smith’s names are just their parents names in different forms???? Goodbye."

Another dumbfounded user said: "Jaden Smith is named after Jada Pinkett Smith… And then Willow Smith is named after Will Smith ??!! HOW HAVE I NEVER REALISED THIS."

A third person remarked: "Hi yes it took me 22 years on this planet to realize Jaden and Willow Smith's names are just the opposite gender form of their parents' names have a good day."

A fourth added: "When you realize that Will and Jada named their kids by just flipping their own names: Jaden and Willow."

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air's actor's full name is actually Willard Carroll Smith II. And, if you didn't know already, his eldest son from his marriage to Sheree Zampino is named after him too.

Known professionally as Trey Smith, the D.J.'s full name is actually Willard Carroll "Trey" Smith III.

The Smiths are not the only superstar parents to name their children after themselves as ex-couple Ciara and Future named their son Future Zahir Wilburn, and David Arquette and Courtney Cox's daughter, Coco Riley Arquette, is named after her mother.

While some people may think it's slightly strange to name all your children after their parents, the couple has gotten off lightly in the world of strange celebrity baby names like X Æ A-Xii.
