Perez Hilton's family has shared an update on the celebrity blogger's condition after he was hospitalized after self-harming on a TikTok livestream.
The 48-year-old had sparked concerns among viewers after he appeared to be covered in blood and brandishing a knife while on live, leading to the emergency services being called to his home.
A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office told NBC News that deputies had been called to Hilton's home following reports of an individual "who was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media."
A subsequent update from the department confirmed that the individual had been "safely recovered" before being transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
According to the statement, deputies spoke with family at the property, who confirmed the individual had been alone inside the home.
Hilton - whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr. - was taken to hospital for treatment, and his family has now shared a statement updating fans that the blogger is able to "communicate".
They said in a statement on Hilton's website: "Our family wants to once again thank everyone who has reached out with prayers, kind messages, and support for Perez. Your compassionate humanity during this heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express.
"This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family. While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful.
"We have also been able to confirm that Perez is able to communicate, which has given our family hope."
They added: "We respectfully ask for your continued prayers, understanding, and grace as Perez continues to recover. We will share additional updates as we receive confirmed information and are able to do so.
"For now, we’re taking things one step at a time and keeping our focus where it belongs, on Perez and his recovery. Again, thank you, truly, for all your support and compassion. We are so grateful."
Hilton, who is a father to three children through surrogacy, had been alone in his home at the time of the incident.
Officers who'd attended the scene chose to "tactfully disengage" while continuing to "monitor the situation" before taking Hilton to hospital.
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Page Six that the individual had “been safely recovered and transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention,” adding that their “Crisis Response Unit and Licensed Mental Health Professionals” were “on scene providing support and resources to the individual’s family.”
Hilton’s representatives at Golden Artists Entertainment, Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan, told Page Six in a statement that they were “aware of the concerning content circulating online” involving Hilton.
They added: "At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him,” adding that their “primary concern” was the blogger's “health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family.”
They added: "We are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from fans, friends and members of the media. We respectfully ask that everyone continue to honor his privacy while he receives the care he needs."

Perez Hilton has reportedly been taken to hospital in Miami, Florida, after authorities responded to concerns that he had been livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.
A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office told NBC News that deputies had been called to the home of the former celebrity blogger following reports of an individual "who was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media."
While the sheriff's office did not identify Hilton by name, the statement was issued in response to questions about the media personality.

A TikTok livestream that circulated online on Tuesday allegedly showed Hilton with blood visible on his body and cuts to his arms and torso while appearing to draw a knife across himself. The video has since been removed from the platform.
Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan, co-heads of management company Golden Artists Entertainment, which represents Hilton, said they were aware of the footage.
"We are aware of the concerning content circulating online," they said in a statement.
"At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him."
They added: "Our primary concern is Perez's health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family."
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, rose to prominence in the early 2000s through his celebrity gossip website, PerezHilton.com, which launched in 2004 and became one of the internet's most recognizable entertainment news platforms.
Throughout his career, Hilton has also attracted controversy. He faced criticism for publicly outing LGBTQ celebrities before they had spoken about their sexuality themselves, was accused of stalking by Lady Gaga in 2013, and was previously sued over recordings involving Britney Spears.
He also sparked backlash while serving as a judge at the 2009 Miss America pageant after making derogatory remarks about a contestant who opposed same-sex marriage.

Bhad Bhabie's mom has blasted Perez Hilton for indicating that her daughter is lying about having cancer.
According to TMZ, a family source confirmed that Danielle Bregoli - also known by her stage name Bhad Bhabie - is reportedly battling cancer and is currently under the care of a doctor.
The distressing report comes after the 21-year-old - who shot to fame for her "Cash me outside, how 'bout that?" moment on Dr. Phil back in 2016 - took to Instagram to share a cryptic message with followers after concerns over her recent weight loss.
"I'm Sorry my cancer medicine made me [lose] weight. Im slowly gaining it back," she penned, adding: "So stop running w the worst narratives."
She did not delve into specifics about the type of cancer or the treatments she's undergoing, leaving fans worried yet supportive.

In the two-minute clip, he asked his viewers if they believed Bhad Bhabie was fabricating her cancer.
"I'm going to say it there is also a possibility that she might have pulled a Lil Tay. I don't know if she's lying, I'm not claiming she's lying, I'm just knowing these types of people operate I wouldn't put it past her to do something like this for attention," he said.
The 'Gucci Flip Flop' star's mom, Barbara, was left angered by Perez's video and responded to his claims in an expletive-ridden video uploaded to her Instagram on Friday (November 8) morning.
Barbara said she was feeling "pretty heated right now at Maria, AKA Perez Hilton for going on YouTube and talking about my daughter releasing on her Instagram Story about her having cancer and saying he wouldn't pass it by her that she was making it up".
"How dare you, you little vile piece of s**t say my daughter would lie about something like that. Okay? You're a dad!" she slammed, adding that the blogger needs to focus on his two children: Mario Armando Lavandeira III, 11, and Mia Alma Lavandeira, seven, who were born via surrogate.
"Go find another way to make some money beside talking s**t about other people," she hit back. "How dare you. And, I pray to God that none of your children never get cancer, okay? I've had it twice. How dare you say my daughter is faking this."

Many fans of Bregoli took to Barbara's comment section to commend her for speaking up for her daughter.
"This is not okay at all I couldn't imagine someone saying that about my cancer fight.. I'm sorry, praying for her," one user wrote.
"He definitely went below the belt! That is sooooo disgusting to say someone lied on having an illness… I just have no words people are disgusting!" another said.
"I’m so sorry she’s having to go through this Cancer sucks I hope she heals well and it stays away. Sending positive vibes for her recovery from this," a third added.

Reportedly he suffered respiratory problems and was put on life support, hooked up to a machine that took over control of his heart and lungs. Insiders say he was placed on ECMO, a treatment where they oxygenate the blood outside of the body and pump it back into the body.
Although the hip-hop star has a history of seizures, he was taking medication, and had recently changed his lifestyle, losing a massive 75 pounds. The health care came as a huge shock to fans, and many of his peers in the hip-hop community reached out on social media to wish him well.
But there's good news: While his condition was serious for a while, Ross appears to have made a full recovery. After four days in the hospital, the Maybach Music artist returned to his Florida home. It won't be long before he's back in the studio, recording a boastful verse over opulent production, adlibbing "BAWSE" in his trademark husky voice.

Today The Daily Mail released audio of the frantic 911 call placed from his Miami, Florida home. We heard a little bit about this call previously, when the story broke: Last Thursday at 3:30AM, someone called emergency responders, saying the rapper was "slobbing at the mouth" and totally unresponsive. Now the call is available to hear.
"I have a friend of mine, at his house, he's breathing hard and throwing up," says the distressed man. "I need an ambulance here ASAP. I know he's had seizures before. He took his medicine earlier, but he's not breathing right."

After identifying the distressed man as William Roberts (Rick Ross), the caller realizes he does not know the address, and frantically searches the house for mail. Finally, he goes outside, to read the street name and the house number. "I just happened to get up and go up and check [on Ross]," the unidentified man explains. He said that the rapper "was kind of breathing hard" and had been sick for about twenty minutes before placing the call.
Them the 911 caller gives up an update on Ross' condition: "He's in and out...He has cold sweats and is breathing real hard. He's been shaking real bad... When [he was vomiting] it looked a little like blood." Halfway through the phone call, he says the MC was nodding his head and "boo-bood" on himself.
It was a scary incident, but it's great to hear that Rozay is doing all right. Back in 2000, the rapper Big Punisher suffered a fatal heart attack and respiratory failure, after a similar ordeal, struggling with his weight. Of course, Big Pun was much younger (28) and weighed much more (698 pounds), but still, we lose too many musicians too soon. Hopefully Ross will continue to live a healthy lifestyle, so he can start 'Blowing Money Fast' on more fun things than hospital bills.
Celebrity commentator Perez Hilton has apologized for mocking a number of celebrities over the course of his career.
Per a report by Page Six, the 42-year-old blogger and gossip columnist (real name, Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.) has expressed contrition for his past behavior in his new memoir, entitled: TMI: My Life in Scandal.

In the book, co-written with Leif Eriksson and Martin Svensson, Hilton opened up about the backlash he experienced when he offered to lend aid to the It Gets Better campaign (founded by writer Dan Savage) to help to struggle LGBT+ youth.
Hilton had previously outed celebrities without their consent, which was what led to him being strongly criticized online.
In his book, Hilton writes:
"People wrote such hateful comments that I couldn’t bring myself to read even half of them. The strength of the hate storm really shook me, and popped the bubble I had been living in.
"I realized for the first time that it wasn’t just a handful of people who disliked what I did — it was the overwhelming majority. I finally understood that the things I wrote genuinely hurt people, and deeply."
Hilton continues:
"I didn't care. That was partly down to being young and believing I would be successful forever, but it was also because I thought I was happy. In reality, I was drowning in negativity. I was stuck playing a part, too afraid to change, too afraid of losing my readers if I suddenly stopped being so mean."

Hilton also writes about his friendship with renowned pop icon Lady Gaga, whom he claims was changed negatively by fame and success. However, he acted in her defense in many respects, savaging Christina Aguilera when he believed she had plagiarized Gaga in her Bionic album.
Hilton writes:
"I started giving Christina all kinds of terrible nicknames. Looking back now, it’s one of the things I’m most ashamed of, and I can also see that Gaga was using me as a tool - not only against Christina but against other rivals too."
