One quick scroll through the filtered corridors of Instagram would be enough to convince the uninitiated that everyone on planet Earth is chiseled and tanned, with flawless complexions and a never-ending supply of sun-soaked backdrops.

Of course, the intersection between Instagram and reality is nebulous at best and non-existent at worst. As such, it's important that we remember not to place our own self-value on fiction, it's vital we learn to love the skin we're in. After all, aspiring to unachievable paradigms of beauty is an impossible pursuit that cannot be fulfilled.

That's why Instagram accounts that look to redress the balance between filtered perfection and real life are so important in our modern society.

Pink reveals the haircut she gave herself on Instagram:

Movements like the Grombre Instagram page and the body positivity movement are reminding all of us to embrace the skin we're in, in lieu of unattainable beauty goals.

And some celebrities are contributing more to the idea of reality on Instagram, perhaps recognizing the positive impact it can have on people's outlooks.

Pink has now taken to Instagram to share a post in celebration of her "thunder thighs", and fans are absolutely loving the empowering message.

"I always wondered why God gave me thunder thighs. It’s cause he knew I’d use them." She captioned the image, which shows the singer expertly wakesurfing.

Earlier this year, Pink described the "terrifying" coronavirus battle she went through with her three-year-old son.

The 40-year-old singer and mom-of-two shared her candid account living with the novel coronavirus in a Mother’s Day essay published by NBC News. She wrote:

"Battling COVID-19 along with my 3-year-old son was the most physically and emotionally challenging experience I have gone through as a mother.

"Weeks after receiving our test results, my son was still ill and feverish. It was a terrifying time, not knowing what might come next."

Pink acknowledged that she was in a privileged position, and that there are mothers all over the US and the world struggling to practice social distancing measures, adding: "But our story is not unique; there are mothers all over America and the world that are facing this same uncertainty every single day.

"Not every family, especially those living on reservations, or in refugee camps, slums, or favelas, are able to practice social distancing. In many parts of the world, it can take hours just to access water, and even then, soap may be an impossible luxury.”

"As we begin to envision what life will look like on the other side of this, we need to put ourselves in the shoes of moms around the globe and consider doing what we can to help keep their babies safe. How can we partake in ensuring their access to the basic human rights that so many of us are afforded each and every day?"
