Reason Jelly Roll is divorcing Bunnie Xo after revealing sex life changes
It was reported this week that country artist Jelly Roll and his wife, Bunnie Xo, are beginning the process of getting divorced, after nearly 10 years of marriage.
The news was first revealed by TMZ, which obtained court documents detailing that Jelly Roll, real name Jason DeFord, filed for divorce in Williamson County, Tennessee, on May 18.
Many have been left shocked by the news, with the pair openly discussing aspects of their relationship over the years, both good and bad.
They shared a wholesome moment at the 2026 Grammys, as Bunnie Xo, real name Alisa DeFord, also opened up about their life in the bedroom earlier this year.
But now, the alleged reason behind their split has been revealed, as per sources close to the couple.
Why are Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo getting divorced?
Court documents revealed that the musician filed for divorce last month, as sources explained that it was a “mutual decision by the two and a private family matter.”
There is no official statement at the time of writing, though the TMZ statement might say enough - the decision was made by both parties to call time on their relationship, as a "private" matter.
However, a closer look into their relationship reveals that Jelly Roll has admitted to cheating on Bunnie, 46, in the past.
In fact, just two years after the couple got married, they split up and at the time, they didn't explain why.
But last October, Jelly Roll came clean, explaining on an episode of the Human School podcast that he cheated on his wife.
"I don’t talk about this publicly at all, but one of the worst moments of my adulthood was when I had an affair on my wife," the 41-year-old admitted.
He went on: “Because it was the first time that I was like, ‘I really can’t get this right at all. Like, I know I’m in love with this woman.’ It just really, really, really blew me back.”
But the couple fought on, officially getting back together in 2018, as the country artist admitted: “I did a lot of work to repair that relationship,
“The repair has been special, man. We’re stronger than we could’ve ever been. I wish our story would’ve went in the way that it never had an affair, and I’m in no way glad it happened, but, man, I’m proud of who we are today.”
Bunnie Xo opened up on their sex life
Speaking in February this year, she explained how her love life with Jelly Roll changed following his dramatic weight loss.
He once hit 540 lbs (245 kg), but managed to lose over half of that, getting down to 265 lbs (120 kg).
Speaking to Us Weekly, Bunnie Xo shared: "We always had a sex life, but there were mountains and valleys that we had to go through - especially when he was so big."
She said that it was his "excitement and his new zest for life" which was a difference-maker, adding: “It’s so childlike and just giddy - just seeing him get to be the man that I always saw that he was.”
The 46-year-old went on: “Even when he was 500 pounds, this dude was an agile, big guy. I’m like, ‘You are athletic under that meat suit.’
"Now that he has the weight off of him, he just gets to be who I always knew that he was, and I think it’s brought a new sense of happiness to him. Any time he’s happy, I’m happy."
Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo's relationship history
The couple originally started dating in 2015 after meeting at one of Jelly Roll's Las Vegas shows, with the pair tying the knot a year later, after he proposed to Bunnie on stage.
Despite the turmoil and challenges over the next decade, the couple looked like they were going strong, as seen earlier this year.
When Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo attended this year's Grammy Awards, they could be seen laying kisses on one another, sharing a more wholesome moment after the former won Best Contemporary Country Album.
As part of his acceptance speech, he said: "I want to thank my beautiful wife,
"I would have never changed my life without you. I would have ended up dead or in jail. I would have killed myself if it wasn't for you and Jesus. I thank you for that," he emotionally stated.
