Rebel Wilson has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of her life, revealing the identity of the man she lost her virginity to at the age of 35. In her new memoir Rebel Rising, the 44-year-old Australian actress shared the story of her relationship with actor and comedian Mickey Gooch Jr., who had no idea at the time that he was her first sexual partner.
The Pitch Perfect star said her decision to wait was rooted in personal insecurities. She wrote that she once believed "as a big girl, no one would ever truly find me sexually attractive." But a major life event changed her perspective. After learning her mother had breast cancer, Rebel made a bold decision to fully experience love and intimacy.
She told Mickey in her memoir years after their relationship ended
Rebel recalled meeting Mickey after her co-star Hana Mae Lee introduced them. She had just returned to Los Angeles from Australia, where she had been supporting her mum. After a month of dating, Rebel invited Mickey to New York. He accepted the offer and their relationship escalated.
"And, Micks, I know this might be news to you if you are reading this, but yes I lost my virginity to you," she wrote. She described preparing for the night by watching porn and using a vibrator, saying she wanted to feel more comfortable and confident. Once the experience was behind her, Rebel admitted she felt transformed.
"I'd imagine having sex and being intimate and everything would always be in my head. Now I'm someone who lives much more in my body. And I'm loving it. Now I actually have a boyfriend and he's handsome and rich to boot," she shared.
Their romance ended but the friendship remained
Rebel and Mickey dated for six months, but eventually the actress had to end things after learning Mickey was struggling with addiction. He revealed to her that he had been to rehab 17 times. Rebel gave him space and waited a year to see if things could work out, but ultimately they didn't reunite as a couple.
Still, their connection never fully disappeared. In 2021, Mickey shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram featuring a throwback photo of them together. He wrote: "The most beautiful girl I know!... Inside and out."
Elsewhere in her memoir, Rebel spoke candidly about her weight-loss journey. She admitted to using Ozempic to help shed 80lbs in 2020. She had previously credited intense workouts with trainer Jono Castano Acero, a protein-focused diet, and long hikes for her transformation.
