It's 2018: Millennials are investing in avocados instead of houses, the president of the United States spends more time on Twitter than he does at press conferences, and everyone and their Instagram-famous dog appears to own a pair of teeny tiny sunglasses.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, just take a gander at these strange-looking specs:
The trend was supposedly started by Kanye West, as Kim Kardashian explained on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians: "He sent me a whole email like, ‘You cannot wear big glasses anymore. It’s all about tiny little glasses,’" she said.
But it's not just the KarJenners who are rocking the dinky eyewear. Fashion models are sporting them, social media influencers are featuring them all over their feeds, and - if you happen to live or work in a hipster-dense area - you might even find that someone right near you, right now has a pair of these glasses. And, if that's the case, you might want to make sure they're not peeping over your shoulder - because a certain Ryan Reynolds has something to say about the trend.
Yes, in true Reynolds fashion, the Deadpool actor and living meme took to Instagram this week to show everyone exactly what he thought of fashion's latest fad. And considering he's now a certified grumpy dad-of-two, I think we all could have predicted how much he wasn't a fan of it.
But simply saying as much wouldn't have been enough for Reynolds. No, he always has to find a hilarious way of getting his point across - and he really outdid himself this time:
"I’m really into the whole tiny sunglasses trend. Thanks for your support everyone!" he wrote alongside the image of himself wearing some oh-so-flattering sunnies (presumably belonging to one of his daughters).
Reynolds has become known for his internet trollery by now, and is most recognised for the lighthearted digs he takes at his wife, Blake Lively.
Underneath that cocky exterior, however, he seems to be a pretty great husband and father. Speaking of his wife in an interview with the New York Times, he said, "She gets me a lot."
And, what's more, he recently admitted that he isn't always the barrel of laughs he appears to be on social media.
"I have anxiety. I’ve always had anxiety," he said. "Both in the lighthearted ‘I’m anxious about this’ kind of thing, and I’ve been to the depths of the darker end of the spectrum, which is not fun."
However, he's good at putting on a show when he needs to, and humour has become a way for Reynolds to handle the darker points of his life.
"When the curtain opens, I turn on this knucklehead, and he kind of takes over and goes away again once I walk off set," he said. "That’s that great self-defense mechanism. I figure if you’re going to jump off a cliff, you might as well fly."
But, while it might seem that Reynolds is only kidding about the tiny sunglasses trend for the sake of comedy, I think he might just have a point. Micro specs might be trendy, but they're also sort of ridiculous.
