'The Traitors' star Maura Higgins reveals reason why she's been celibate for a whole year
Maura Higgins has opened up about her decision to be celibate for a whole year after her most recent break-up.
The former Love Island star, 35, who recently competed on The Traitors, took aim at her "cheating" exes as she revealed she'd sworn off sex.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Maura said: "I've already got severe trust issues. I've been cheated on by the majority of my exes - that's the reason I've been celibate for a whole year."
She added in reference to losing to Traitor Rob Rausch to Elite Daily: "I don't trust men anyway. If I wasn't used to that kind of guy, I reckon I would've been crying, storming out, never speaking to him again."
Maura's last public relationship was with reality star Pete Wicks, and the Daily Mail reports she previously suggested he cheated after discovering text messages to other women on his phone.
Insiders told the outlet that Pete was never unfaithful to Maura and was hurt by the accusations.
Last month, Maura revealed that she goes through a man's phone just a week into dating him due to her "serious trust issues".
She revealed that years of "men doing her dirty" had made her turn into an "investigator" to track down any signs of infidelity.
Maura previously told Glamour magazine: "I'd say my biggest red flag in a relationship is I've got serious trust issues.
"If I'm dating you and it's only a week in, I've already gone through your phone. I've turned into a bit of an investigator because men have done me dirty. So like, I mean, I'd probably say it's a beige flag, but we call it red.
"We call it red because it's not okay to go through someone's phone, but I'm going to do it again."
As well as Pete, Maura previously fell for Curtis Pritchard and Chris Taylor on Love Island, before going on to date Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice for four months.
Maura and Joey Essex from The Only Way Is Essex were linked after being spotted kissing at the National TV Awards in 2022, but denied that they were dating.
She was in a 10-month relationship with stuntman Bobby Holland Hanton until March 2024, and most recently sparked romance rumours with her Traitors US co-star Rob, 27.
She addressed the rumors while appearing on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live, where the host asked her: "The internet wants you and Rob to get together, and?"
Maura responded: "I saw, there's a lot of videos on TikTok at the moment," to which Andy pressed: "And what do you think?"
The Irish reality star responded: "I mean, you'll have to watch the show to see if that happened."
