Taylor Swift has been defended on The View following backlash from the Grammys after some viewers believed that she "ignored" Celine Dion at the show.

Swift, who clinched the coveted Album of the Year award for her 2022 record Midnights, found herself under scrutiny for what some perceive as a lack of acknowledgment toward the legendary singer Celine Dion, who presented her with the award.

Dion, despite battling stiff-person syndrome (SPS), made a rare appearance at the ceremony, creating an emotional moment at the event as she received a standing ovation from the crowd. Surprising the audience, she handed Swift the same award she herself had won 27 years prior.

Swift, who made history by becoming the first person to secure the Album of the Year award four times, eagerly took to the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles upon her name being called out by Dion. Watch the moment unfold below:

However, as Swift claimed her prize, some eagle-eyed fans noted a perceived lack of acknowledgment towards Dion. Instead of engaging with the icon, Swift hugged her collaborators before swiftly turning to the microphone to deliver her acceptance speech.

Viewers took to social media to voice their displeasure that Dion appeared to be overlooked in the moment, with some going as far as to call Swift "classless".

The View hosts have since addressed the moment and the subsequent backlash Swift faced during yesterday's (February 5) episode.

Sunny Hostin acknowledged the "controversy" surrounding Swift's acceptance of the award, with people saying Swift "didn't give [Dion] enough flowers". However, Hostin argued that the moment belonged to Taylor and she was likely "shocked" and "got caught up in the moment".

Co-panelist Sara Haines added that there was clearly "a lot of emotion" for Swift, who she believes was "shocked" as well.

Alongside criticism for her interaction with Dion, Swift has also faced recent backlash from NFL fans over her support for her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, a player for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fellow The View host Ana Navarro commended Swift earlier in the show for "not letting [haters] take away her happiness and her success".

"All those people bullying Taylor Swift are turning me into a Taylor Swift fan," she said. "Because she's responding to it with such grace and such joy."

Swift and Dion were all smiles backstage though, posing for pictures and silencing those hitting out at the 'All Too Well' star.

The backstage moment made it clear that there were no hard feelings between the pair, and that Swift was merely excited to be winning the award.
