Many film enthusiasts would not be able to recognize this famous actor despite them having an impressive resume.

With a career spanning three decades, this talented Hollywood star has over 150 credits to his name.

They have collaborated with world-famous directors and hugely successful stars like Angelina Jolie, Sarah Jessica Parker, George Clooney, and Meryl Streep.

But you still wouldn't be able to recognize them because they spend several hours in the make-up chair to bring some of the industry's strangest-looking monsters to life on the big and small screens.

The famous actor in question is Doug Jones, who is a 64-year-old contortionist, and mime artist.

Jones began his film career as the zombie, Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus but it was his partnership with visionary director Guillermo del Toro that took him to stardom.

The veteran star played Abe Sapien in Hellboy and the Faun and the Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth, respectively.

He also has roles in films such as Tank Girl (1995), The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (2005), Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), Absentia (2011), Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016), The Bye Bye Man (2017), and The Shape of Water (2017). In addition to this, he portrayed Saru in the science fiction series Star Trek: Discovery from 2017 to 2024.

Jones' transformative work and physical performances in movies such as Pan's Labyrinth have left an impact on the industry as the production took home three Oscars, including Best Makeup.

The dedicated actor has built an incredible resume as the perpetual prince of prosthetics so it's understandable why most film lovers would not be able to recognize him without his all-encompassing costumes.

Jones, who thrives on the anonymity his roles afford him, opened up about his position in the industry during a 2017 interview with BuzzFeed, sharing: “I’m hired because I’m a tall, skinny guy – with other talents, I hope."

“But the creature effects guys love to start with a skinny, long palette because they can build on it and not make it too bulky,” he added at the time.

Filmmaker Del Toro also applauded the actor's work, saying: “A creature performer needs to be a very odd combination of [a] marathon runner and a mime, who can express himself through layers and layers of latex and acrylic and silicon."

“It’s a very, very rare discipline… [and] there are very, very few that are actual actors, in my opinion, that goes beyond being able to work in a suit or under makeup," he said, praising: “Doug is a proper actor.”
