A reporter has been slammed for their inappropriate line of questioning when speaking to Andrew Scott at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards.

The 47-year-old Irish star attended the award ceremony at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday (February 18) to present the Best Animated Film award alongside his co-star Paul Mescal.

The pair have been heavily praised for their performance in the Andrew Haigh-directed drama All of Us Strangers, in which Scott plays a grieving writer who begins a romance with his mysterious neighbor, played by Mescal.

But before the presentation, the Flea Bag star - who sported a vibrant red suit for the event - did an awkward interview with Colin Paterson from the BBC on the red carpet. Watch Scott's interview below:

The reporter began the interview by asking the Sherlock star whether he knew the Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan, to which Scott smiled and revealed that he did know the fellow Irish star.

However, Scott's face dropped when the interviewer brought up a famous scene in the popular film, which shows Keoghan's character, Oliver, strutting through an empty house, naked, soundtracked by Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s pop hit 'Murder on the Dancefloor'.

"Can I ask your reaction when you first saw the naked dance scene at the end of Saltburn?" Paterson asked, which prompted the Spectre star to shake his head and respond: "I don’t want to spoil it for anybody."

Despite Scott appearing visibly uncomfortable at the topic, the reporter leaned in and said he could "spoil away," and even shockingly added: "There is a lot of talk about the prosthetics…How well do you know him?"

At this, the Ripley actor shook his head again and walked away from the bizarre conversation, as Paterson asked: "Too much?"

Though seemingly intended as a joke, the interviewer sparked backlash on social media, with many unimpressed viewers voicing their disappointment with the nature of the questions.

One user shared a video of the interview with the caption: "This is frankly disgusting. Andrew Scott is there to support his multiple nominated film and THIS is what you ask? Then when he looks visibly uncomfortable the guy carries on. Truly horrid."

"How utterly embarrassing Is this @BBC red carpet interview at #BAFTA with the brilliant Andrew Scott? Andrew handles it with supreme tact - but why was he even asked this?" a second user criticised.

Another user pointed out: "This is very creepy and weird, bbc man. You wouldn't ask a woman this question, why do you presume it's acceptable to ask a gay man? The man was clearly uncomfortable and yet he carried on? what the actual f***?"

A fourth blasted: "This is appalling: presenter Colin Paterson 'interviewing' brilliant Andrew Scott, & asking about a fellow actor’s genitals (in a film Andrew is not even in). Because Andrew is also Irish, like Barry Keoghan? Because he's gay? Baffling & insulting to both of these talented actors."

All of Us Strangers received six nominations at the award ceremony, including Outstanding British Film, Best Supporting Actor for Mescal, Best Supporting Actress for Claire Foy, and Best Director for Andrew Haigh. However, the film and its actors went home empty-handed.

Oppenheimer and Poor Things were the big winners of the night, which also saw Michael J. Fox make a surprise appearance at the ceremony.
