Chet Hanks has traded Hollywood living for life in an RV trailer park after moving to Nashville.
The 35-year-old actor and musician, who is the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, recently revealed he’s been living in a trailer park in Tennessee.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week, he said he chose not to rent another apartment after furnishing his condo in Los Angeles.
Instead, after moving to Nashville, he spent time staying in Airbnbs and hotels because he didn’t want to furnish another place all over again.
But that lifestyle quickly lost its appeal. "That gets really old because I just like having my own space," he said.
Chet said the idea first came to him after taking a road trip in an Airstream trailer to Carmel in California’s Bay Area.
"I really loved it," he told Fallon. "I was like, man I want one of these."
Although he didn’t end up buying an Airstream, he eventually purchased a Jayco Eagle RV instead.
The actor said the trailer gives him everything he needs while allowing him to avoid expensive housing costs.
"I got my kitchen. I got a walk-in shower - that’s a big deal in trailers," he explained.
In a previous Instagram video shared in March, Hanks responded directly to critics confused by his living situation.
"What the f***, why are you living in a trailer?" he recalled people asking. The Running Point star insisted the decision made financial sense for him.
"These things aren’t f***ing expensive. This s*** is cheap as f***. I got it for 30 grand. It’s a 2025 [model]. I put four grand on it, and my rent is 400 bucks a month," he said.
Despite stereotypes surrounding trailer parks, Chet insisted his neighborhood is far from dangerous or rundown.
"You think, 'Oh, you’re going to live in a trailer park. It might be a little sketchy. It might be a little dangerous.' It’s all just retirees," he said.
He joked that he is "probably the youngest person in the trailer park by 30 or 40 years," adding that his neighbors are "good people".
The 35-year-old is the eldest child that Tom shares with actress Rita. The couple also has a 30-year-old son, Truman.
The Oscar-winning actor is also a father to Colin Hanks, 48, and Elizabeth Ann Hanks, 43, from his previous marriage to Samantha Lewes.
Chet appeared on Fallon's show to promote his recent performance at the Stagecoach music festival with his band Something Out West, and discuss his role in Netflix’s Running Point, where he stars with Kate Hudson and Brenda Song.
