Travis Kelce's ex-girlfriend also had a family announcement to make on the day that Travis and Taylor Swift announced their engagement.
Unless you've avoided social media today, you've probably seen the news that Swift and Kelce are set to get married.
The pop star and NFL tight end shared the big news on August 26 via Instagram.
The engagement, which took place in a beautiful garden setting, included photos of Kelce on one knee beneath an elaborate floral arch and a close-up of Swift’s stunning engagement ring, co-designed by Kelce himself with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.
In addition to the heartfelt photos, Swift’s post included a subtle yet meaningful detail that added an extra layer of personal significance to the announcement.
The song 'So High School' from Swift’s Tortured Poets Department album played in the background of the post - a track with deep ties to Kelce.
The song, which features the lyric, “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle,” is a clever reference to both Kelce’s athleticism and his intellectual bond with Swift. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift captioned the post.
It wasn't the only announcement made that day,
Kayla Nicole, who dated Kelce for five years before their 2022 breakup, recently took to Instagram to announce that her sister, Layla, will be playing for Langston University’s women’s basketball team in Oklahoma.
In her post, she shared her pride and encouraged her followers to support the team by donating to help fund the program.
“My little sister Layla just transferred to Langston University, a HBCU, where she’s suiting up for the women’s basketball team,” Nicole wrote. “They’re raising funds to support the program this season, and every dollar truly helps these women chase their dreams on and off the court.”
Despite the intense spotlight on Kelce’s relationship with Swift, which has captivated fans ever since they went public in 2023, Nicole is choosing to focus on positive family news.
She continued: “If you can, tap the link below to donate and show some love to Layla and the LU Lady Lions.”
Through no fault of her own, Nicole has experienced hate from Swift's fanbase due to her previous relationship with Kelce.
“I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and online chaos didn’t impact me, even to this day,” she said in a past interview on Angel Reese’s Unapologetically Angel podcast.
“You could go to my most recent posts, and people would be debating why I am worthless… It is nothing to do with me. I think there is something about that level of fame that attracts crazy people, which is unfortunate because I don’t think I have done anything to warrant that kind of backlash.”
