Chrissy Teigen has opened up about the whirlwind moment she found out she might have an identical twin thanks to a DNA test.
The model, 37, revealed she had had an "insane 24 hours" after getting her DNA test results, after looking into her genetic history as part of her "journey of health and wellness".
She had made the step to "figure out a lot about my past" with the encouragement of her therapist and a doctor, and upgraded her account to find out as much about her heritage as possible.
However, she was in for a bit of a shock when she got her results from 23AndMe, which revealed she had a 100% genetic match with an "identical twin".
She revealed: "And the first thing that came up after I found out that I was part Neanderthal, was this: I have an identical twin. That has to be a joke, right?"
Chrissy frantically reached out to her dad Ron to check whether she did indeed have a mysterious identical twin sister and just didn't know about it.
"Honestly, at this point, I’m spiraling," she admitted. "I call my dad and I literally say, 'Dad, hey, did you see me come out of Mom’s vagina and were there two of me?' He starts laughing and saying, 'No, I was there. There were not two of you.' And I was like, 'Are you sure you were there?'"
She added: "At this point, I’m making excuses for my whole life. This is why I’m so co-dependent because my twin was ripped away from me. I’ve always felt something missing, and this is why I have addiction issues."
Chrissy even reached out to 23AndMe directly to see if there could be any sort of glitch in the system causing her to appear to have a twin, to no avail.
However, as the mystery thickened, Chrissy reached out to her sister Tina - who is her older sibling from her mother Pepper's past relationship before meeting Chrissy's father - who thankfully was able to work out exactly what had gone on.
"My sister was like, 'Chrissy, no,'", she revealed, explaining that her sister reminded her that the family had all taken DNA tests as part of a planned appearance on the PBS series Finding Your Roots.
Chrissy's episode was never completed or aired, but her DNA test had been submitted under an alias at the time, in order to protect her privacy.
So.. her identical twin was in fact herself, and she was simply matching with the previous DNA profile she had submitted.
"My identical twin was myself. I was matching myself," she revealed.
Despite the slightly embarrassing mishap, Chrissy dealt with the crushing blow of discovering she had an identical twin and having them taken away from her in one day with her trademark humor.
She posted a hand-drawn image of a tombstone with the words: "Sissy Teigen, Sister, Aunt and Friend. June 4, 2023 to June 4, 2023."
