Dua Lipa has sparked a debate on social media after wearing a white lace dress to a wedding.
On Tuesday (June 5), the 26-year-old singer shared a series of images of herself on social media as she attended a friend's wedding. PopSugar reported that the singer was attending the wedding of her friend Olive Uniacke over the weekend.
According to Harper’s Bazaar, the outfit consisted of pieces from Bottega Veneta’s fall 2022 runway and included a thin lacy slip dress with straps and ruffled details in a light lavender color, which appeared nearly white.
The 'Don't Start Now' singer matched the dress with full-length gloves, sunglasses, and metallic boots, and wrote in her caption: "wedding season".
However, it seems like fans have questioned the appropriateness of Lipa's dress choice for her friend’s wedding. Many users on Twitter have claimed that the sheer lace dress was far too close to white, and that should've worn a different colored dress.
One user wrote: "Rare L from my Queen. If it’s your wedding, you should put a stop to it now. If it’s not your wedding, why [the f***] are you wearing white?"
Another commented: "Bestie who told you it was right to wear white to a wedding?"
However, other fans praised the' Levitating' singer's dress and wrote that she looked "gorgeous" in the dress, even saying she probably looked better than the bride.
One user said: "Dua is literally my spirit animal. she high-key wore white to a wedding, undoubtedly looking hotter than the bride. my actual dream."
Another wrote: "You could sing the phone book wearing a garbage bag and you would still be stunningly beautiful."
The Grammy award winner isn’t the first star to receive backlash over wedding guest etiquette. Last year, Kendall Jenner sparked a debate after wearing a black dress that featured diamond-shaped chest cut-outs for her friend Lauren Perez’s wedding.
The 26-year-old model’s dress choice for the night caused debates on social media, with many people questioning if the outfit was suitable for her friend's special occasion. Others also suspected that Jenner was trying to upstage the bride.
It's no secret that guests should aim to follow the event’s dress code if specified by the couple. According to the wedding website The Knot, along with being discouraged from wearing white, women are urged to dress "in a floor-length evening gown or an elegant dress".
